NBA Trade Rumors: Are the Memphis Grizzlies Going to Trade Ja Morant Next?

On Wednesday, February 3, the Grizzlies traded Jackson to the Jazz as part of a massive seven-player deal. And though acquiring Jackson could signal a rebuild for Memphis and a new phase for Utah, there’s increasing buzz about Morant’s future before the 2025-26 regular season wraps up.

Morant, including off-court controversial moments, has been included in multiple trade rumors — ultimately finding a more suitable spot for the Grizzlies star.

In a recent segment on SportsCenter, ESPN’s Shams Charania addressed the trade discussions after Jackson’s news. And while there’s no confirmation from the team, Charania reported that the Grizzlies are certainly still interested in trading Morant.

“The Grizzlies’ conversations around Ja Morant and entertaining offers is continuing around the league. There’s multiple teams with interest in Ja Morant. We’ve seen with Desmond Bane, and now with Jaren Jackson Jr. This is a Grizzlies organization that’s prioritizing their young core,” Charania said.

With Jackson gone, the Grizzlies could focus on their future rather than the current NBA season. This could include tanking the current campaign, especially as they try to rebuild.

“They had a few years of success with Memphis making some runs. This team looked like it had some promise. But they are now officially turning the page on this and stocking up with draft capital. The Ja Morant trade conversation between now and Thursday’s deadline are continuing to heat up,” Charania concluded.

Morant is Reportedly No Longer Interested in Playing For Rumored Western Conference Team

Over the past few weeks, multiple news outlets have linked Morant to the Sacramento Kings.

However, recent reports state that the 26-year-old isn’t really interested in signing with Sacramento. Morant is reportedly unwilling to sign an extension with the Kings, which isn’t in line with their current rebuilding strategy.

There have also been multiple reports questioning Morant’s ability to be a team player, which might not align with the Kings’ values.

Previous reports have questioned Morant’s trade value, wondering if he can even find a team to settle with.
With the Grizzlies since the beginning of his NBA career in 2019, Morant is currently averaging 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists while shooting 41% from the field.

Out with an elbow injury, Morant will be reevaluated in a few weeks.
