Mavericks Injury Update: Latest News on Cooper Flagg, Daniel Gafford, D’Angelo Russell, Others

Here are the injured Dallas Mavericks players and their respective status for their game against the New York Knicks on Monday.

The Dallas Mavericks are playing their 44th game of the season tonight, Jan. 19, against the New York Knicks. Here’s who is on their injury list, along with their status heading into this East vs. West matchup.

Mavericks’ Injury Update Against the New York Knicks

For the second time this season, the Mavericks and the Knicks will be squaring off. Standings-wise, this will be an uphill climb for the Mavs. Additionally, the Knicks already beat them once earlier this season, 113-111, back on Nov. 19.

That uphill climb becomes even more difficult due to the various injuries they are dealing with.

Cooper Flagg is listed as questionable for this contest. He sustained an ankle injury against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, forcing him to leave the game early. According to head coach Jason Kidd, he stepped on someone’s foot, which caused him to twist his left ankle.

He has missed two games since then, and there’s a high chance that he misses a third straight.

Further depleting the Mavericks’ frontcourt are the injuries to Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington. Gafford is out due to a right ankle sprain and, like Flagg, has missed both of his team’s last two games.

Washington, who is dealing with a personal matter, will also miss Monday’s game against the Knicks. That same personal reason is what kept him out of Saturday’s game against the Utah Jazz.

Their frontcourt isn’t the only area where the Mavs will have a shorter rotation than usual. Point guard D’Angelo Russell is dealing with an illness that will keep him out against the Knicks.

Over the team’s last 10 games, Russell has suited up only once, on Jan. 10, in the loss to the Chicago Bulls.

With the Mavs playing four games this week, these four players will have several opportunities to make a comeback in the seven days.

Aside from these four players, the Mavericks are also dealing with more severe injuries. Dereck Lively II (foot), Dante Exum (knee), and Kyrie Irving (ACL) all have indefinite return timelines.

Anthony Davis, who is dealing with ligament damage to his left hand, is expected to miss several weeks. Initially, it was reported that he would require surgery and that he was likely done for the rest of the season.

However, an update later stated that surgery was not required and that at least 6 weeks were needed for his recovery.
