Klay Thompson made NBA history in Thursday's game between the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz.

On Thursday night, the Dallas Mavericks are playing the Utah Jazz (at home) in Texas.

Klay Thompson had 15 points, one rebound, five assists, one steal and one block while shooting 6/12 from the field and 3/9 from three-point range in his first 17 minutes of playing time.

In addition, Thompson also made major NBA history.

Via Mavs PR: “With his second 3-pointer of the game (2,805th career) at the 1:18 mark of the first quarter tonight against Utah, Klay Thompson passed Damian Lillard (2,804) for fourth place on the NBA’s all-time 3-point field goals made list. Ray Allen ranks third all-time with 2,973 3s.”

Thompson is one of the best shooting guards in all of NBA history.

Despite being out of his prime, the former Washington State star is still a solid role player for Dallas.

He came into play with averages of 11.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 37.6% from the field and 36.6% from three-point range in 38 games.

Thompson was the 11th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors.

The five-time All-Star helped lead the franchise to the NBA Finals six times (and they won four titles).

As for the Mavs, they came into the night as the 12th seed in the Western Conference with a 15-26 record in 41 games.

They have gone 3-7 over their last ten games (and are 11-11 at home).

On Saturday, the Mavs will play the Jazz (again) at home.

Meanwhile, the Jazz are the 13th seed in the Western Conference with a 14-26 record in 40 games.

They are 5-14 in 19 games on the road.
