The Ja Morant trade saga continues to be the center of attention as the NBA’s trade deadline approaches. According to an insider, though, it’s still unclear which organizations are pursuing him.
NBA Insider Highlights the Lack of Suitors for Ja Morant
Rumors as to where Morant might get traded to are dominating the NBA’s headlines at the moment. Hypothetical packages, whispers, and speculations are coming out regularly, as people anticipate where the Memphis Grizzlies will send him.
Despite that, NBA Insider Marc Stein noted that at this stage, there isn’t much clarity on this trade saga. According to him, identifying which teams are realistically putting together a package or whether he will be dealt by the deadline remains unknown.
“We’re headed for a trade one way or another. Now, does it happen by February 5th? I can’t promise you that,” Stein said. “It’s hard, really, to even pinpoint clear-cut suitors at this point.”
Stein also mentioned that one team has discussed the disgruntled Morant with the Grizzlies.
“Miami, we know, is interested,” he said. “There has been some dialogue between the teams. How far it’s actually gone, I imagine the Heat would just be trying to steal him for expirings. I don’t know how far the Heat would be willing to go in terms of draft capital and young players to put into an offer.”

A recent update on Morant’s off-court activities has placed the Heat at the forefront of this trade saga. According to reports, he purchased a $3.2 million house in Miami back in December. The report also stated, however, that he repurchased the property in December before the Grizzlies announced that they were listening to offers for him.
However, this does not guarantee that Morant will be in a Heat jersey before Feb. 5. It may simply suggest that Miami is a preferred destination for him. Still, the final say on where he goes is up to the Grizzlies’ front office, as he does not have a no-trade clause.
Several teams are reportedly interested in acquiring him, but the Grizzlies do not have to rush into anything right now. If they do not receive any favorable deals by the deadline, they can wait until this summer to trade him.
Waiting until the offseason might also work out better for potential destinations. Instead of introducing a new player midseason, they can integrate Morant more effectively and retain the flexibility to make other moves that suit his playstyle.
