At 41, James is still competing at an elite level, matching the performance of the league’s younger stars. His play makes him a legitimate candidate for this year’s All-Star Game. However, his agent, Rich Paul, recently addressed questions about James’ eligibility for the event.
Rich Paul Feels LeBron James Doesn’t Need To Be an All-Star
It has been nearly two seasons since fans last saw LeBron James play in an All-Star Game. Although he was named an All-Star last year, he withdrew at the last minute because of an injury.
James last appeared in the showcase in 2024. With his contract set to expire after this year, questions remain about his future in the league. This season could mark his final opportunity to participate in the event.
Amid these circumstances, James’ agent addressed his client’s All-Star prospects. Paul said an appearance is not essential at this stage and that he would prefer James focus on recharging for the second half of the season.
“But here’s the case in LeBron’s case, I don’t want a charity case from him,” Paul said. “If his numbers aren’t good enough to be an All-Star reserve, if he’s not a starter, I think the coach’s vote, fans’ vote, if his numbers aren’t good enough, then let him go on vacation and charge up for the second half of the season.”

Paul also mentioned how LeBron missed out on the All-Star Game last season, which he thought was unfair because his slot could have been awarded to other deserving players who barely made the cut.
The NBA agent is concerned that James could pull off something similar again, depriving other talents of an All-Star spot that could have been theirs.
Whatever the case may be, James is likely to earn his 22nd All-Star nod this season. He is currently ranked eighth in All-Star voting in the Western Conference with 1,059,855 votes. He has averaged 22.4 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.7 rebounds in 21 games this season.
James holds the record for the most NBA All-Star appearances with 21 selections. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ranks second with 19, followed by Kobe Bryant with 18.
