Is Klay Thompson Playing Tonight? Latest Injury Update On Mavericks Star For 76ers Game

An NBA Insider has the latest update on Mavs star Klay Thompson, who's struggling through the season of his career. Find out more here

The Dallas Mavericks are showing signs of life after a rough start. However, many of the team’s top veterans are dealing with injuries, including shooting guard Klay Thompson. As Thompson looks to find his old form, an NBA insider provided the latest update on his status.

What’s The Latest Update On Klay Thompson?

Mavs insider Mike Curtis had an update on Thompson during the team’s shootaround before their road game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Curtis said, “The Mavs just finished shootaround here in Philadelphia. Anthony Davis (illness) was present. Klay Thompson, who’s questionable with left knee soreness, was not.” Curtis’s latest report makes it unlikely that Thompson will play against the 76ers.

Thompson is unquestionably having the worst season of his career, averaging a career-low 10.8 points per game, while shooting 36.7% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range, both of which are also career lows. Thompson is also diminished defensively, which has caused Mavs Head Coach Jason Kidd to use him in a reserve role.

The Mavs have won six out of their last ten games to move up the Western Conference standings. The team scored an upset 116-114 overtime win over the Detroit Pistons in their previous game, and beating the team with the best record in the East has to give the Mavs confidence.

However, Thompson was ineffective in the Mavs’ win over the Pistons, scoring five points in 19 minutes, while shooting 2-8 from the field. He finished the game with a plus/minus rating of -13. He’s currently shooting 36.1% in December.

The NBA is undoubtedly hoping that Thompson will be healthy enough to play on Christmas Day against the Golden State Warriors. Thompson won four NBA championships and made five All-Star teams as a member of the Warriors before things fell apart, leading to his exit from the organization. Warriors franchise player Stephen Curry regrets how the situation played out and wishes Thompson was still on the team.

Thompson’s future in Dallas is also murky, as the Mavs have been heavily rumored to explore the trade market for him as they figure out how to reshape the roster around rookie Cooper Flagg.

For now, the Mavs are hoping that Thompson will be able to regain his shooting form when he returns to the court.
