What Happened to Ja Morant? Shams Charania Discloses Latest Update on Grizzlies Star

Here's more on the current injury that Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is dealing with and his expected return to action.

Recent reports indicate that Ja Morant is expected to miss additional time with the Memphis Grizzlies, a serious concern given that the star point guard is the franchise cornerstone and the undisputed best player.

After trading away Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic this offseason, the Grizzlies have started the 2025-2026 NBA season poorly and held a record of 4-10 going into Nov. 17 action. Given that the Western Conference is filled with talented and experienced teams, the Grizzlies are not expected to qualify for the postseason at their current pace.

Perhaps things would be different with a healthy Morant. After all, an argument could be made that he is one of the most athletic guards in league history. While Grizzlies fans always hope for Morant to remain on the court consistently, current injury reports indicate the star guard is expected to miss a significant amount of action.

Ja Morant Will Miss at Least Two Weeks Due to a Grade 1 Calf Strain

Not only has Morant missed significant time with several off-court issues, but the NBA star has dealt with a significant number of injuries over the past few seasons, causing some to wonder if he is one of the more injury-prone players in the league.

During a Nov. 15 game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Morant played just six minutes before exiting the contest for good. It was later reported that he sustained a calf injury in this game, an issue he has been dealing with throughout the season.

Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania shed more light on this matter. He revealed that Morant has been diagnosed with a grade 1 calf strain and will be evaluated in around two weeks.

“Grizzlies say star guard Ja Morant will be re-evaluated in two weeks due to a Grade 1 right calf strain.”

This is terrible news for the Grizzlies, who enter Nov. 17 action on a four-game losing streak. Every team playing against them over the next few weeks, such as the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, and Denver Nuggets, will look to capitalize on Morant’s injury and improve their own respective records.

Without Morant or Bane on their roster, the Grizzlies can be viewed as one of the worst teams in the West. They’ll be decidedly overmatched in virtually any of the games they play without Morant.

Fans have also begun to grow weary of hearing about all the issues affecting Morant’s availability. Some have even joked that he is a grade 3 problem to his own locker room. In any case, the majority of the Grizzlies’ fan base hopes that Morant will undergo a speedy recovery process to rejoin his team as soon as possible.
