‘That’s Not Normal’- NFL-Bound Shedeur Sanders Opens Up on Life With Deion During 1-on-1 With Zlatan Ibrahimović

    Published on

Soccer legend Zlatan Ibrahimović shared some insights with Shedeur Sanders on the Colorado QB's most recent podcast.

Former NFL superstar and current Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has a reputation for being strict and somewhat harsh with those he leads. When discussing playing with their dad as their coach, NFL Draft prospects Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders broke down his style of coaching, one that involves a rigorous routine. Luckily for them, they were preaching to the choir with soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Shedeur Sanders Opens Up With Zlatan Ibrahimović

In the latest episode of “2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders” podcast, Ibrahimović joined as a guest, talking about various things ranging from football, Deion, and off-field activities.

When asked, the soccer star shared that he was in Italy. That revelation prompted a discussion about the time zone differences and Ibrahimović’s surprise that Sanders actually had the time to podcast so early in the day.

“What happened? Your father gave you free time?” Ibrahimović asked. “Yeah, he gave us all time off,” Sanders replied. “That’s not normal. He has a lot of discipline,” Ibrahimović added.

The Buffaloes quarterback clarified that he is observing an off day with the game scheduled for Saturday.

It was a harmless back and forth but one that highlighted the perception most people have of Sanders since becoming Colorado’s head coach. With so much scrutiny around him and the organization itself, Deion has become a talking point for several media outlets.

After the team’s most recent win against Texas Tech, Deion Sanders was seen telling his team that even though they won, there would need to be some more work done this week to prepare for their next game.

Never one to settle, the Buffaloes head coach continues to push the narrative that he will get the best out of his team, no matter the cost.

“Offensively, let us just do what we do. … I want 10 minutes longer on the walkthroughs tomorrow morning because I don’t like what we did today in practice. I really don’t, I don’t think you were focused. I don’t think you were really on it like you normally prepare. So let’s add 10 minutes to the walkthrough tomorrow.”

Sanders is enjoying a good season. The team has secured bowl eligibility and is remaining in contention for the Big 12 Championship Game. Not only do they have their eyes on the Big 12 Championship, but with the new College Football Playoff format, they could even compete for the national championship.

In PFN’s most recent top 10 rankings of NFL Draft quarterbacks, Sanders finished at the top.

“Sanders is the most naturally accurate passer in the class. He’s practically automatic when he’s able to work in rhythm. His quick, compact release makes up for what is just a slightly above-average arm. His anticipatory flashes are impressive, he operates cleanly over the middle of the field, and he consistently exhibits toughness in the face of free rushers (which happens a lot).”

Shedeur Sanders Receives Advice From Zlatan Ibrahimović

Though Shedeur Sanders doesn’t play the same position as Deion did back in his days, fans tend to throw shade at him and compare him to his father’s legendary career. Ibrahimović said he understands, giving his own perspective on how his kids, who also love soccer, will receive similar criticism.

“In your case, you should not compare yourself with your father,” Ibrahimović told Sanders. “You have your own way, and you do the maximum out of what you can do. That is what I try to say to my kids: you don’t do it for me, you do it for yourself. If you choose to come into my world, do it for yourself, not for me, because if you do it for me, you should stop now.”

In response, Sanders chimed in saying it is similar to what his father also preaches.

Ibrahimović added that the comparison, whether fair or not, should drive one even more to do better. Ultimately, it was a fun back-and-forth with two stars in their own right.
