At Money in the Bank, WWE Undisputed Champion John Cena will team up with Logan Paul for the first time ever. The duo will face World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes in a tag team match inside the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, on Saturday.
While Uso and Rhodes have been teaming off and on in the last two years, Cena and Paul are a fresh tag team. So, ahead of their first foray together, Paul had a few suggestions for a team name to ‘The Champ.’
Logan Paul Came Up With Interesting Names For Tag Team With John Cena
Last week on SmackDown, Cena hyped up Paul as one of the best talents in WWE, as they confronted Uso and Rhodes in the ring. Though the segment ended with Cena and Paul retreating on the ramp, things could be quite different at Money in the Bank.
But before the blockbuster match, Paul had a few team name suggestions for his new in-ring partner. In his latest YouTube vlog, Paul gave fans a sneak peek behind the scenes of his preparation for the upcoming match. At one point, Paul could be seen interacting with Cena and asking him if they would need a tag team name since they would be teaming.
Cena light heard suggested ‘The Human Centipede’ at first, and then said that they would need a third member in that case.
‘The Maverick’ then went on to suggest some interesting names. Paul said, “I was thinking Heel Team Six,” to which Cena replied, “I love that.” Notably, this name is likely inspired by SEAL Team Six, the U.S. military’s premier special missions unit. The YouTuber, however, wasn’t done.
Paul came up with another possible name for the tag team. “The WWE, ’cause we’re The WWE. It’s the WWE.” This led to Cena enacting what a ring announcement with this name would sound like. “Ladies and Gentlemen, and now their opponents – The WWE. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso vs. The WWE. I don’t hate that,” the 17-time World Champion said.
As both stars weigh their options, fans will likely have to wait until Money in the Bank to find out if they have come up with an official name for their tag team.
While they might be on the same page for now, had Paul’s request been approved, we could have seen him compete against his new tag team partner.
Logan Paul’s Request For a Match Against John Cena Was Turned Down
Late last year, rumors were swirling that WWE was considering pitting Cena against Paul at WrestleMania 41. In his Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Paul had indeed asked for a match against ‘The Franchise’ but was turned down.
“Regarding some rumors, there probably were talks of Cena vs. Logan Paul at Mania and Logan Paul did ask for it, but we’re told it’s 100 percent not happening,” Meltzer noted. Meltzer also confirmed that WWE was on board with the idea of Cena breaking Ric Flair’s world title record at the event.
Eventually, Cena achieved the feat by beating Cody Rhodes in the Night 2 main event of WrestleMania 41, while Logan Paul beat AJ Styles in a singles match on the same night.
With Cena on his retirement tour, it is unlikely we get to see them go against each other, despite the WWE teasing some tension between the two last week on SmackDown.
