Pat McAfee gave an injury update after his wild match against Gunther at WWE Backlash. After returning to the commentary table, Michael Cole gave a quick recap of the bout and thanked McAfee for stepping up to defend him during the weekend event.
Pat McAfee Gets Standing Ovation After Gunther Match
Once the recap ended, the WWE Universe gave McAfee a standing ovation for putting his body on the line and backing up Cole at Backlash. McAfee stood up at the table and accepted the love and cheers from the crowd.
Cole then asked how he was feeling. McAfee said he was sore and even showed off some of the bruises from the match. He also revealed that Gunther hit him so hard, it popped a blood vessel in his eye.

McAfee said he has got a ton of respect for Gunther and all the superstars who step in the ring and take that kind of punishment regularly. He added that he thinks Gunther has a little more respect now for both him and Cole after their showdown.
While this is not McAfee’s first time wrestling in WWE, he made it clear—this was his toughest match yet.
