‘I Have No Choice’ — WWE Star Kevin Owens Drops Key Update on Injury Status

Back in April, Kevin Owens announced that he was dealing with a neck injury. He revealed that he would require surgery, putting an end to his plans of competing at WrestleMania 41. Last month, KO provided an update on X (formerly Twitter), saying that he has not undergone surgery yet.

When he announced his neck injury on an episode of SmackDown following the Elimination Chamber PLE, Owens said he wasn’t sure when he would be cleared to wrestle again. The former WWE Universal champion has now shared another update that would leave fans with their fingers crossed.

Kevin Owens Drops an Update on Uncertain In-Ring Future

Owens recently spoke to Bernard Colas for le10Sport to share the status of his neck injury. The former U.S. Champion revealed he still hasn’t had surgery.

“I still haven’t had the surgery…There’s no doubt I need surgery, but before we do the surgery, we just have to see how much it can… Not recover, because it won’t recover, but slightly improve without surgery. Afterward, we can make a plan and decide what’s the best thing to do for surgery. But it’s a very slow process. You just have to have patience. I don’t usually have a lot of patience, but this time I have no choice,” he said.

As we know from the history of various pro wrestlers, recovering from surgery following a serious neck injury could be a long road. It also casts doubt on their in-ring future. Talking about his possible return to the ring, Owens admitted he’s not sure whether we will see him competing in the squared circle again.

“It would be, not arrogant, but false to be able to tell you right now that I will absolutely return to the ring, that I will have other fights. I don’t know if that’s true,” he said.

Owens first revealed that he would need surgery on his neck on the April 4 episode of SmackDown. Later, it was reported that Owens was getting a second opinion from a neck surgeon who previously worked with Randy Orton.

Notably, following this, Owens was involved in a brutal ladder match against Cody Rhodes at the Royal Rumble. The match ended with Rhodes driving the Canadian star through a ladder with an Alabama Slam.
KO isn’t the only WWE star sidelined due to a neck injury.

Big E Has Been Out of Action for Three Years

During the March 11 episode of SmackDown in 2022, Big E suffered a broken neck, which has kept him out of action ever since. While the former WWE Champion didn’t require surgery, he hasn’t been medically cleared to compete in the ring.

In April, he revealed that he may not ever be cleared but was happy to be free of pain. Big E was last seen on WWE programming on the Dec. 2 episode of RAW last year. He was kicked out of The New Day by Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods during the faction’s 10th anniversary celebration.

It remains to be seen whether we get a lengthy wait on Owens’s return to the ring, but fans would hope that he stays healthy for now.
