WWE Reportedly in Talks to Bring Back Former World Heavyweight Champion This Year

The WWE Universe has been waiting for the retirement match of WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg for a long time. He was last seen in the ring at the 2022 Elimination Chamber against Roman Reigns, where he unsuccessfully challenged The Tribal Chief for the Universal Championship.

Fans have been eagerly waiting ever since the WCW icon announced that he plans to retire in 2025. And according to recent reports, the wait might be over soon.

    Update on Goldberg’s Retirement Match

Last year, Goldberg attended the WWE Bad Blood Premium Live Event in October with his family. During the show, Gunther came to the ring with Triple H to cur a promo about Crown Jewel. However, The Ring General also took some shots at the legend, insulting both his parenting and wrestling skills.

Da Man, who couldn’t tolerate such an insult, jumped the barricade, and just as the brawl was about to start, Sami Zayn attacked Gunther from behind, breaking the confrontation. Ever since then, fans have been speculating about a possible showdown between the two superstars.

Goldberg had stem cell replacement surgery earlier this year and is reportedly preparing for a return. Now, an exciting report from WrestleVotes has arrived that suggests WWE is considering bringing the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion back.

“According to multiple sources, Goldberg’s name has been floated internally within WWE over the past week — the first time since his Bad Blood appearance and his interactions with Gunther. Feels like the inevitable return is nearing,” WrestleVotes wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

    Goldberg vs. Gunther This Summer?

Many fans believe that a dream match between Gunther and Goldberg is inevitable. The former World Heavyweight Champion is currently heading to Backlash with a match set against Pat McAfee, but after the recent reports, fans are wondering — will this event serve as the stage for the Hall of Famer’s return?

As many anticipate, The Ring General might win the fight against the RAW commentator and may continue the attack post-match, possibly setting the stage for Da Man to show up and make the save. If it happens, it would definitely get a huge pop.

While there’s no official announcement about who the legend will face in his retirement match — or exactly when — Goldberg himself earlier revealed that he believes the match will take place sometime this summer. Fans are now asking, could it be Goldberg vs. Gunther at SummerSlam? Will Da Man make his comeback this Saturday to start a feud with The Ring General? Only time will tell
