Top AEW Star Reportedly in Talks To Jump Ship to WWE

Highly-rated AEW star Mariah May is reportedly in talks over a potential shock move to WWE, according to the Wrestling Observer Radio.

May had been part of AEW since 2023 after getting noticed on World Wonder Ring Stardom and was brought in to be part of Toni Storm’s faction and help her capture the AEW Women’s Championship.

Months later, May turned on Storm and managed to dethrone her as AEW Women’s Champion before the pair’s rivalry culminated at this year’s Revolution pay-per-view, which saw Storm win the title again.

Could Mariah May Be on Her Way to WWE

Her impressive run has reportedly put her on WWE’s radar, and a potential move could materialize in the coming weeks. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio broke the news on Tuesday as he believes May already has her sights set on WWE.

“I know from people in WWE…they know she wants to go there. I don’t know when her contract is up, everyone seems to think it’s this summer,” Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Bryan Alvarez also highlighted: “I was given the impression it’s a two-year deal that she signed originally, so you can do the math. I have heard the same thing. At least in AEW, there’s a belief she’s heading to WWE.”

It’s worth noting that May sparked speculation over her wrestling future via a cryptic post on Instagram, saying: “You can’t make the wrong decision because every decision leads you to where you’re supposed to be.”

    More Departures From AEW Expected

WWE has already made a number of acquisitions from AEW, and the addition of May to their roster seems to be only a matter of time. With the arrival of Shawn Spears, Ricky Saints, Pénta, and most recently, Rey Fenix, it seems Tony Khan hasn’t been able to retain talent recently.

When AEW launched in 2019, many WWE superstars wanted to get out of their contracts and jump ship to be part of Khan’s new project. Jon Moxley, Miro, Malakai Black, Brody Lee, Bryan Danielson, and Claudio Castagnoli are some of the names that made the switch back then, but it seems the tides have changed now.

With Paul “Triple H” Levesque taking charge of WWE after the removal of Vince McMahon three years ago, fans started to believe in the promotion once again as well as the talent and as the company grew further signing deals with Netflix for example, it became a more attractive destination for professional wrestlers around the world.
