The 5 WWE Superstars Who Must Win at Backlash

Backlash is fast approaching, and the match card is now complete, with four titles on the line.

The Undisputed WWE Championship match between John Cena and Randy Orton headlines the event, marking the final showdown between the two WWE legends. Here’s a look at five WWE Superstars who must win at Backlash.

Gunther Seeks Revenge After Losing the World Heavyweight Championship

The Ring General is coming off a stunning upset at WrestleMania 41, where Jey Uso handed him his first singles loss and captured the World Heavyweight Championship.

After nearly nine months as champion, Gunther was furious on RAW after WrestleMania, attacking commentators Michael Cole and Pat McAfee.

That outburst led WWE to book a match between Gunther and McAfee, marking McAfee’s first in-ring appearance since SummerSlam 2022.

Gunther needs a dominant win at Backlash to make a statement and bounce back from his loss. A convincing victory, and possibly a post-match beatdown, could set the stage for Goldberg’s rumored return in St. Louis this weekend.

Jacob Fatu Has Become a Fan Favorite in WWE

The Bloodline star made history at WrestleMania 41 by winning his first singles title in WWE. Despite his heel status since debuting a year ago, Fatu has become a fan favorite.

He will defend the United States Championship in a Fatal 4-Way Match against LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, and Damian Priest. Fatu has clashed with each of them over the past few weeks, but has looked dominant heading into Backlash.

The champion must retain the title to keep his momentum rolling and further establish himself as a top star on SmackDown.

Dominik Mysterio Has Emerged as a Leader of The Judgment Day

Dirty Dom became Intercontinental Champion at WrestleMania 41, surviving a Fatal 4-Way against then-champ Bron Breakker, Penta, and Finn Bálor.

He now defends the title against former AEW star Penta, who is seeking his first singles gold in WWE. The feud between Mysterio and Penta has been building since Penta’s debut in January.

Dom needs to win to keep the title, to solidify his role as the leader of The Judgment Day, and to continue his brewing rivalry with Bálor. Should Mysterio win, Bálor could step up next, potentially challenging for the title and splitting from the faction.

    Becky Lynch Recently Turned Heel

Becky Lynch returned to WWE after nearly a year away and made a surprise appearance at WrestleMania 41 alongside Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria.

The next night on RAW, Lynch turned on Valkyria, kickstarting a feud and setting up a title match at Backlash.

Lynch must defeat Valkyria to fully commit to her heel turn and reestablish herself as a top villain in the women’s division. A title win would also pave the way for her next rivalry with Bayley. Lynch attacked Bayley backstage at WrestleMania, sidelining her for the event.

Bayley is expected to return soon and target Lynch, setting up a potential title showdown for revenge.

John Cena Wants to Add a New Angle to His Heel Turn

The Cenation Leader made history at WrestleMania 41, becoming a record 17-time world champion. He’s since vowed to “ruin wrestling” and retire as champion.

Cena must beat Orton at Backlash to complete his story with The Viper and continue his dominant heel run. Losing the title to Orton would derail his legacy and his mission to end his career on top.
