WWE is gearing up for its upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event featuring big names like John Cena, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, and a lot more. But there’s something about returns that always keeps the fans on the edge of their seats, and why wouldn’t they? WWE has always treated surprises as part of its DNA, and the WWE Universe, as always, is expecting a few big names to make their comebacks.
So, here are six returns that could change WWE’s trajectory heading into the summer stretch.
#1. Cody Rhodes
The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes, has not uttered a single word other than “I’m sorry” ever since he lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to John Cena at WrestleMania 41. What was supposed to be one of the biggest nights of Rhodes turned out to be nothing more than a con to him.
However, a return at Saturday Night’s Main Event opens multiple doors for the former champion, whether it’s confronting The Franchise John Cena or costing him the title at ‘Mania, or returning with a bitter edge that hints at a heel turn. Rhodes’ story is far from over
#2. Goldberg
Goldberg’s name continues to resurface despite months of inactivity. This all stems back to last year when Bill Goldberg made his appearance at Bad Blood Premium Live Event, where he jumped over the barricade to confront the then World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.
The Ring General’s reign of dominance has few parallels with Goldberg’s run in WCW and in WWE. Moreover, the fans would be delighted if the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion calls out The Ring General and sets up a clash for generations.
#3. Jake Paul
The Maverick Logan Paul is neck-deep in his feud against the Main Event Jey Uso for the World Heavyweight Championship. Triple H and co. can once again lean on the Paul family formula to get a pop from the fans in attendance at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The Problem Child has flirted with the WWE spotlight before, but has yet to leave a meaningful mark inside the squared circle.
#4. Shinsuke Nakamura
The fall of Shinsuka Nakamura needs to be studied. From what started as one of the most over wrestlers, to a forgotten name in the business, Nakamura has fallen from grace. However, a return this Saturday could prove to be a reset button for the Japanese superstar.
Whether it’s a sudden entry to break up a match or a dramatic re-emergence during a backstage segment, Nakamura could remind the locker room what they’ve been ignoring.
#5. Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns hasn’t been seen ever since his empire collapsed at WrestleMania 41, no thanks to the shocking betrayal of The Wiseman Paul Heyman. However, his comeback at Saturday Night’s Main Event could be his moment to reassert control.
With Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins and Paul Heyman appearing, The OTC might have a clean shot at the two of them for being the Trojan Horses of his empire.
#6. Little Jimmy
Back in the early 2010s, R-Truth introduced a “character” named Little Jimmy: an imaginary friend that became part of his comedic persona. Almost a decade later, the former WWE Intercontinental Champion has his hands full with the recently turned heel, John Cena.
Now, we’ve never actually “seen” Little Jimmy, but all these years later, things could be different. This time, maybe Truth has some trick up his sleeve and might blindside Cena and win the title for himself.
Apart from these surprise comebacks, the Saturday Night’s Main Event is laced with pretty tough battles. With so many comebacks possible, who do you think is most likely to appear at the event? Sound off in the comments!
