Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena has been surprisingly ambushed by R-Truth in the latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
John Cena Targeted by Locker Room
John Cena opened the show as he came out and started to provoke the crowd in attendance. Cena then started explaining how he laid out his retirement year and how things have gone according to plan so far.
The 17-time WWE World Champion was later confronted by a fired-up Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and LA Knight as the trio made it clear they wanted their shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship.
As Cena walked out and made his way up the ramp, Ron Killings (fka R-Truth) came out of nowhere and attacked the champion from behind before security intervened to break up the fight before the show went to a commercial break.

R-Truth Not Done With John Cena
The ambush comes after R-Truth had his share of issues to deal with recently. The former United States Champion had announced his release from the company two weeks ago on social media.
However, his exit was met with a negative reaction from fans and active wrestlers who were unhappy with the decision, as it piled pressure on WWE officials heading into the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event.
Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso were set to take on Logan Paul and John Cena in the main event of the show last week, but the match had an interesting twist. As fans started the “We Want Truth” chants, R-Truth surprisingly showed up and attacked Cena before Rhodes took advantage to pick up the victory.
Future Plans
With Cena set to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against CM Punk at the upcoming Night of Champions Premium Live Event in Saudi Arabia, it seems the company is still keeping tabs on other feuds this year. For instance, Cena could have a response for Ron Killings, and their issues could be settled in a TV match on either SmackDown or RAW next week.
Members of the WWE Universe are yet to see Cena get another program with Cody Rhodes, but that could be on the cards for a major event such as SummerSlam, since it will be held over two nights for the first time ever.
In addition, WWE Creative could also go down a different avenue and have Cena square off against LA Knight or Damian Priest in a short program that would help the pair transition into bigger things as we progress through the year.
