R-Truth’s WWE release announcement via X on June 1 shocked fans. But a week later, he was placed in a prominent position at the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event. In the main event, R-Truth attacked Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena, costing the latter a win over Cody Rhodes.
Another interesting aspect of R-Truth’s rather quick return to the sports entertainment capital was that the announcers highlighted his real name, Ron Killings.
So, Why Did R-Truth Return to WWE as Ron Killings?
According to Dave Meltzer of the “Wrestling Observer,” R-Truth specifically asked WWE to use his name, Ron Killings, from hereon. He said, “Ron Killings did ask for the name change to his real name as part of his new deal, as many had suspected. The advantage is that when the new deal ends, he will have had TV time as Ron Killings and can then go straight to using that name on indies and for personal appearances.”
R-Truth’s new WWE deal came mere days after he was released, which sparked speculation that the whole thing was an elaborate work. However, reports tell otherwise.
R-Truth Considered WWE Return Only After Higher-Up Stepped in
As per a report by “Fightful Select,” Ron Killings was indifferent towards the conversation regarding another contract. However, the sports entertainment capital showed the 53-year-old veteran how valuable his return was viewed internally. The report read, “It wasn’t until WWE CEO Nick Khan personally stepped in that real negotiations began.”
Killings evidently has a good rapport with the WWE roster, as his return was a morale boost. Fightful also reported, “Truth being brought back was something that they viewed as a good sign that the roster and fan response being listened to overcame everything else. As one would expect, the roster is ecstatic about Truth being back with WWE.”
As for the veteran’s own feelings regarding this new contract, one source states that Killings wishes to have at least one more serious in-ring run before ending his wrestling career. However, a the time of this writing, there is no concrete word on how WWE plans to use Killings in the coming months.
“Wrestling Observer” also reported, following Truth’s release a week ago, that GCW and TNA were interested in signing him. How this new avatar of Killings is revealed on-screen is an exciting storyline for fans—the WWE locker room, even—to follow in the coming months, as he remains one of the most loved wrestlers today.
Ron should be the spoiler for cenas last match and beat him to save wrestling. Since cena wants to ruin wrestling. It would be an awesome way to send them both off.
