Reason for John Cena vs R-Truth at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Revealed

John Cena’s farewell tour continues and fellow WWE veteran R-Truth is the next in line for an opportunity to face The Cenation Leader one last time.

Their mini-feud started at Backlash, where Truth saved Cena from Randy Orton’s punt before getting an RKO from a frustrated Orton. Later in the press conference, Truth had a brief segment with Cena before the latter hit him with an AA through the table.

Cena’s AA to R-Truth led to the start of their mini-feud before the latter spoke with SmackDown commentator Wade Barrett and announced that he would take on The Cenation Leader at Saturday Night’s Main Event in an attempt to ‘beat some sense into him’.

The Undisputed WWE Championship will not be on the line this time and WWE Insider Sam Roberts attempted to shed some light on why WWE booked the match between the two veterans.

Roberts believes this match is a good idea for WWE Creative, even if it is not a blockbuster match, and it will allow the 17-time World Champion to take a ‘clean victory’ after the way he beat Cody Rhodes and Orton at WrestleMania 41 and Backlash, respectively.

“I think it was a good idea…Now that we are in the John Cena run, not every match is going to be, and can’t be, PLE-worthy. I also think Cody Rhodes, dirty finish, Randy Orton, dirty finish, some of these bigger name guys, you are not going to get a clean finish, first because first John Cena is a heel, and number two, you have to protect these big-name guys that will continue to be your big-time guys…I think you can look at opportunities where John Cena can win as a villain and have a clean finish,” Roberts said on the latest edition of the “Notsam Wrestling” podcast.

The Cenation Leader responded to R-Truth’s claim that he was his childhood hero and that he wanted to be like him when he grew up (R-Truth is 53 years old and Cena is 48).

Cena appeared at The Philadelphia Fan Expo and took a shot at his next opponent for his remarks.

“How in the space-time continuum can I be R-Truth’s childhood hero when he’s 150 years old? It doesn’t make any sense,” Cena said.

It is unclear if the 17-time World Champion will be on SmackDown this Friday or if he will show up directly at Saturday Night’s Main Event for his match against Truth.
