John Cena and Idris Elba reunite after “The Suicide Squad” for the new Amazon feature film “Head of State,” in which Cena dons the role of United States President.
This is Cena’s first feature film release after his WWE farewell tour commenced in January 2025. He has been working predominantly for the sports entertainment capital ever since, as this December will mark the end of his 25-year run in the professional wrestling industry.
John Cena’s “Heads of State” Slated for Amazon Prime Release in July
Cena announced on X (formerly Twitter) that his new feature will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime from July 2 onwards. Along with Idris Elba, the film has an impressive lineup of actors, including Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Paddy Considine, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, and Carla Gugino.
The movie revolves around Cena and Elba’s characters (US President and UK Prime Minister, respectively), as they are forced to team up and take on a powerful enemy, despite their public rivalry that risks their countries’ alliance. Cena wrote on X, “Sometimes it’s the differences that bring you together… whether you like it or not! Heads of State comes to @PrimeVideo on July 2! @AmazonMGMStudio.”

Will John Cena Be Undisputed WWE Champion in July?
It’s an interesting scenario for John Cena as he became Undisputed WWE Champion at “WrestleMania 41,” defeating Cody Rhodes in the main event of Night Two.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, his fellow wrestler-turned-actor colleague and TKO board member (WWE’s parent company), called Cena the “GOAT” of professional wrestling. “John raising that title, that was the bottom line, the north star, and I loved it,” Johnson said about Cena’s 17th world title win at WrestleMania 41.
Cena’s reign could either be brought to a screeching halt by Randy Orton, who reignited their storied rivalry on “Monday Night Raw” this past Monday, or he holds on to it till December as he proclaimed. If the latter were the case, then he may carry the belt during the “Head of State” feature’s upcoming promotions.
Meanwhile, the “Backlash St. Louis” Premium Live Event (PLE) is scheduled for May 10, where it is likely Cena defends his newly won title against Orton, the hometown hero. The 48-year-old veteran is also confirmed for “Money in the Bank,” which is set to emanate from Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on June 7. WWE has not announced any PLE for July, as the next event will, at the time of this writing, will be the two-night show, “SummerSlam,” on August 2-3.
