Ex-WWE Writer Vince Russo Shuts Down Return Claims – Teases AEW Meeting With Tony Khan

When it comes to opinions on pro wrestling, Vince Russo is not someone to hold back. The former WWE and WCW writer has been vocal about what he thinks of the current product and doesn’t mince his words.

He recently voiced his concerns over Karrion Kross not being in the Money in the Bank and also called out Cody Rhodes for his “dramatic” promos. Having led WWE’s writing team at its peak during the Attitude Era, Russo understands the business well, and you would expect him to jump at a chance to work in the business again. But that is not the case.

Vince Russo Dismisses Working in Pro Wrestling Again, Wants to Meet With Tony Khan

Russo’s critique of the current pro wrestling product is well-known. He has in the past called out WWE’s booking of its top stars and also shared his take on what AEW needs to do right. Despite this and his experience in the industry, he has no desire to work in pro wrestling again.

Taking to his X handle (formerly Twitter), he posted, “You can believe me, or not believe me, really don’t care either way. I have ZERO INTEREST in ever Working in the Wrestling Biz again,” before adding, “UT, I would love to meet @TonyKhan and have a Conversation with him.”

Well, Russo has spoken his mind, and it will be interesting to see if Tony is open to the idea of meeting with him. There is no doubt that Russo will have a lot to share with Tony and could offer him some ideas around the wrestling side of things, especially when it comes to AEW’s main event talent.

Apart from working with WWE and WCW, Russo also had a stint with TNA. Despite having a hit-and-miss run in the latter part of his career, Russo has been endorsed by some of the biggest names in wrestling.

The likes of The Rock, Kurt Angle, and Mick Foley have praised him for his work with them and his impact on the industry. He could have a lot to bring to the table if Tony decides to engage with him.

In the past, Russo has also talked about what he would like to change about AEW.

Russo Addressed His Concern About AEW

In 2021, AEW was enjoying a good period after its initial boom period. However, Russo was unhappy with one aspect of the company.

Talking to Chris Van Vliet, he shared what he would change if he booked AEW. “The first things I would change is cut down the matches. I mean bro there have been studies over the years of the attention span of people. Every year the attention span gets shorter and shorter. The only person that’s going to watch a 10 minute match, 15 minute, 20 minute, maybe even an 8 minute match, are going to be die hard wrestling fans. If you go back and you study the attitude era, you will see one thing, no wrestling match went through a break,” he said.

AEW has persisted with lengthy matches, which has led to longer pay-per-view events. While the fans tend to enjoy the well-written wrestling contests, the length of the PPVs is something that AEW has been criticized for in the past.

Maybe Russo will have this on his mind if a meeting with Tony comes to fruition.
