Drew McIntyre is a man on a mission at the moment. He will face United States Champion Jacob Fatu at Backlash, along with Damian Priest and LA Knight, in a Fatal 4-Way match. Winning the US title would add momentum for him after his WrestleMania 41 win, but there is more than just a potential championship win.
Drew McIntyre Focused On Becoming A Grand Slam Champion
Drew McIntyre ran into Byron Saxton backstage and proceeded to cut a promo as part of his interview. He addressed Fatu and his actions on SmackDown, saying that he was fighting him because he has been doing well as of late, calling him ‘the baddest dog in the yard’. He then proceeded to reveal that when he wins the title from him at Backlash, he will become a Grand Slam Champion and check off another major milestone in his career.

The Scottish Warrior then stated that he had some advice for the champion. He said that the problem with Fatu’s ‘all gas and no brakes’ approach will eventually hit a brick wall. He proceeded to explain that said brick wall would be the next United States Champion – Drew McIntyre himself.
Drew McIntyre Drops Jacob Fatu With A Claymore On SmackDown
Before the aforementioned backstage interview took place, Drew McIntyre had already delivered a strong message to The Samoan Werewolf. Fatu and Solo Sikoa wrestled LA Knight and Damian Priest in a tag team match on SmackDown. After a competitive showdown, it was Knight and Priest who picked up the win, with Knight pinning Sikoa after a BFT.
After the match, Fatu took out both the winners with his signature running hip attack. The champion raised his United States Championship after the assault, thinking he was the last man standing. Drew McIntyre ran to the ring and took out the champion with a massive Claymore. The former World Heavyweight Champion threw the US title onto Fatu and left the ring, his statement of intent loud and clear.
At Backlash, owing to Fatal 4-Way rules, the former Bloodline enforcer does not have to be pinned or submitted to lose his championship. This gives McIntyre undue advantage, because he does not have to tussle with the champion to win the title. However, given his praise for Fatu in his interview, it looks like he is looking forward to throwing hands with him.
