Alberto Del Rio hasn’t competed in a WWE ring since 2016, when he exercised a clause in his contract to quit the company if he was unhappy with his booking, which was the case at the time.
His decision came following a suspension for violating WWE’s Wellness policy. Since then, he’s been competing around the world on the independent scene, and then for AAA, where he’s currently contracted. But after WWE acquires the Mexican company, fans have been wondering whether he will end up making his return.
Alberto Del Rio Lost at AAA TripleMania Regia
Del Rio has been involved in a major storyline with El Hijo Del Vikingo in recent months over the AAA Mega championship, which has seen them put several impressive matches together.
Their feud has even involved segments on Mexican television shows where brawls have taken place, and the lines between kayfabe and reality have been blurred interestingly in a bid to build the interest.

It all culminated at AAA’s TripleMania Regia, though, as they wrestled inside a steel cage. Vikingo came out on top after an assist from Latin Lover. That defeat has increased speculation about Del Rio returning to WWE, potentially on a full-time basis, for a third run with the company.
Will Alberto Del Rio Return to WWE?
With Del Rio’s defeat to Vikingo, potentially ending his feud with the talented high-flying star, the opportunity for him to return to WWE is open.
The company has often been open for wrestlers to make returns, regardless of the history between them, as long as it’s best for business. The likes of CM Punk, Bret Hart, and The Ultimate Warrior all returned to the company, despite it seemingly being an impossible idea at one point in time.
That’s why Del Rio’s return to WWE can never be ruled out. However, given the negative press that has surrounded Del Rio’s personal life over the years, it would be a risky move.
Bringing Del Rio back to WWE would generate significant backlash, and at this stage in his career, it’s hard to see the true upside in making that happen. However, there is a good chance he will appear at one of the cross-promoted WWE and AAA events, as he will continue with AAA moving forward.
