Gunther is once again the World Heavyweight Champion following a bitter battle with Jey Uso. He choked his opponent out to win the title bout, taking revenge on the man who beat him at WrestleMania 41.
Now that Gunther is World Heavyweight Champion, there are plenty of superstars who would put on classics with him. Here are five names he has to face before the end of the year for some truly compelling wrestling.
Goldberg
The history between Gunther and Goldberg is well-documented. A few months ago, the two had a bit of a spat, with The Ring General taunting and insulting the legend and his son. Many fans predicted a match between the two men to take place, but there has been nothing so far.
Goldberg is due a retirement match, and what better swansong than a World Heavyweight Championship fight against Gunther?
Ilja Dragunov
Ilja Dragunov’s name has been tied to Gunther’s since their NXT days. The two men have wrestled multiple bangers that have made people fall in love with wrestling. A bout for the richest prize on RAW would be another electrifying chapter in their rivalry.
Expect a lot of technical ability and brutal chops in a match between these superstars. It would also be personal for the World Heavyweight Champion, since Dragunov is someone who has historically had his number.
AJ Styles
AJ Styles is wrestling royalty, firmly on fans’ lists as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. His locking up with one of the best of the modern era is a dream match for many.
The power of Gunther and the technical mastery of Styles would be a phenomenal clash of, well, styles. We hope this contest takes place at some point during the Austrian’s reign.
LA Knight
LA Knight failed to win the Money in the Bank ladder match despite being one of the favorites. As such, he is out of world title contention indefinitely. However, we would love to see him and Gunther throw down for the title.
An old-fashioned brawl between the former NXT UK Champion and Mr. BFT would be the kind of match that gets fans excited. It would also give us some epic promos and insults that set the stage for a fiery match with tempers flaring.
Karrion Kross
Karrion Kross has been on a roll for weeks. Despite being a heel, fans have been behind him after seeing him do great work inside the ring and out of it. He deserves a run at the top, and a match with Gunther seems like the way to do it.
Kross is a master wind-up, which means it won’t take him long to get under the World Heavyweight Champion’s skin. That kind of character work should give us a very interesting feud and contest.
