5 Opponents for John Cena’s Undisputed Title at WWE Night of Champions 2025

With John Cena set for a tag match at the upcoming WWE Money In The Bank Premium Live Event (PLE), we take a look at potential title matches for Night of Champions.

John Cena Set for Tag Team Action

Cena defeated R-Truth at the recent Saturday Night’s Main Event in a non-title singles match. Later in the night, the 17-time world champion got involved in Jey Uso’s World Heavyweight Championship match against Logan Paul, causing a disqualification.

As Uso was getting attacked by Cena, Cody Rhodes made his return and challenged the Undisputed WWE Champion and Paul to a tag team match at the upcoming Money In The Bank PLE. But the question remains: Who will Cena defend his title against at Night of Champions?

Cody Rhodes

The obvious thought would be that Cody Rhodes gets his WrestleMania 41 rematch at Night of Champions. However, it is likely that the WWE will save this clash for a bigger event such as SummerSlam in August.

Despite that, the match could still happen at Night of Champions, depending on the star power on the event’s card, as well as WWE finding a viable alternative to Rhodes for a short program.

AJ Styles

AJ Styles squared off numerous times against Cena in the past, and a rerun of the same encounter could provide an entertaining program heading into the summer.

A defeat for Styles would not hurt his career and would add another hard-fought title defense for Cena as he enters his final months as a professional wrestler.

Damien Priest

After his statement victory over Drew McIntyre in a Steel Cage match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Damien Priest looks set to return to the title picture once again.

The former World Heavyweight Champion is also on SmackDown like John Cena and would massively benefit from a short program with “The Doctor of Thuganomics” in terms of promo and in-ring work.

LA Knight

A fan-favorite, LA Knight could be the spark Cena’s heel run needs. The pair had a couple of exchanges as babyfaces back in 2024, and it would be interesting to see how they mesh together as opposite characters this year.

It’s worth noting that LA Knight recently dropped his United States Championship to Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 41, and moving out of the mid-card temporarily could help his booking.

CM Punk

While CM Punk may be involved in other storylines with Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman, fans are dying to see him get another match with Cena at a PLE.

Given Cena’s tight schedule, it remains unlikely, but still, WWE could find a way to squeeze CM Punk into a short feud ahead of Night of Champions.
