John Cena promised to ruin wrestling during his March 24 promo on Monday Night Raw. That was a bold promise for the legendary wrestler to make, but he seems dead set on sticking to his plan.
While Cena didn’t elaborate on what the plan is, it doesn’t exactly bode well for the rest of WWE — the wrestlers trying to make names for themselves, and most notably, Cody Rhodes.
3 Ways John Cena Could Ruin Wrestling
When Cena promised to ruin wrestling, nobody knew what he meant. Speculation has grown since the promo, but there’s still no way to know what the 16-time WWE Champion has in store.
There are a few routes Cena could take in his effort to “ruin” wrestling, and the vague nature of his statement keeps the suspense intact. So what could he actually do?
Jone Cena Retiring With the WWE Championship
There’s nothing more jarring to the WWE Universe than a show without a champion. If Cena beats Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 and decides to walk away with the title, fans would be stunned.
Cena could win at WrestleMania, show up on Raw the next night, and then vanish with the title. While he probably won’t disappear completely, he could hold onto the championship through the rest of the year and retire as champion — forcing WWE to crown a new one.
It’s the scenario that Cena said would happen in his promo and could lead to the creation of an entirely new title, which would definitely disrupt the current era in WWE.
Cena and The Rock Screw Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41
This one might sound a little far-fetched, but there’s still a chance The Rock steps back into the picture. The Rock showing up at WrestleMania 41 seems likely, but what will his role be? Cena has already aligned himself with The Final Boss, but nothing more has developed since.
The pair could team up to end Rhodes’ title reign at WrestleMania, but there’s more to consider. If they also cost Jey Uso his shot at the World Heavyweight Championship, the domino effect could be huge.
Cena would get a form of payback on Uso for winning the Royal Rumble over him, while The Rock could remind the WWE Universe (and his family) that he still calls the shots.
Would that force a Roman Reigns vs. The Rock confrontation? Could it lead to Cena vs. Uso for the WWE Championship? Ruining two of the most beloved superstars’ WrestleMania moments is definitely on the table.
Cena’s Reign of Terror?
What if Cena calls an audible and decides he won’t retire until someone beats him? Triple H was criticized for his dominant reign during the Ruthless Aggression era, but what if Cena took a page from that playbook?
If Cena wins the title at WrestleMania 41 and goes on a long run where no one can touch him, that would be one way to “ruin” things. A heel Cena holding the belt and refusing to let go could change the entire landscape of WWE.
There are several directions this could go, but what really counts as ruining wrestling? Whatever Cena decides, it looks like he’s serious about keeping that promise.
