The Los Angeles Sparks’ season is at a crucial juncture. The team currently sits just outside a playoff spot, ninth in the standings. With a month left to make a push, a fully healthy roster will help the Sparks climb the ladder.
While Cameron Brink’s widely expected return from her ACL injury came at the end of July, the Sparks center has been on a minutes restriction since. And after an ankle injury forced her to leave Tuesday’s game against the New York Liberty early, head coach Lynne Roberts must proceed with caution.
Is Cameron Brink out Injured Again?
Brink, who has played just seven games this season, ended the game after only five minutes on the court. Roberts said after the game that the star had “tweaked her ankle.” The latest on Brink provides relief to Sparks fans heading into a tough playoff battle.

Los Angeles sports writer Ira Gorawara reported Thursday morning that Brink participated in team practice. While the team is relieved Brink did not sustain another major injury, it underscores the need to move ahead cautiously, as losing her again could be devastating to the season.
Brink remains on a minutes restriction as she continues her recovery from a torn ACL. While there is no specific timeline for when her minutes will increase, Roberts has said Brink’s playing time is being handled carefully, and the decision was made not to take risks. The plan is for her to be available in “short, impactful bursts” as the Sparks make a push for the playoffs.
The Stanford alum is averaging 6.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 12.9 minutes. Her defensive ability, particularly her shot-blocking, has been a significant asset. She had a three-block game and a five-block game in her first few appearances. Brink has also shown the ability to score, with a season-high 14 points in a recent win against the Seattle Storm.
Brink’s return has coincided with the Sparks improving their record, winning four of the seven games she has played since coming back. While her contributions remain short and effective for now, Brink could be a vital piece for the Sparks in the playoffs, especially as a defensive anchor.
But to get there, the Sparks will have to put together a run of wins, as the teams ahead of them are finding their best form at the right time. The Sparks could be a dark-horse candidate in the playoffs with Brink healthy. Whether they can get there with her minutes still restricted remains to be seen.
