Wings CEO Already Has Huge Expectations for Paige Bueckers Even Before the WNBA Draft

Following Caitlin Clark’s headline-making selection by the Indiana Fever in 2024, the WNBA is once again at the doorstep of another era-defining moment. This time, it’s Paige Bueckers’ turn, fresh off delivering the UConn Huskies their record 12th national championship.

As you already know, Bueckers is widely expected to go No. 1 overall and land in Dallas. Now, the Dallas Wings CEO has a message for the community regarding Bueckers.

Dallas Wings CEO Excited About Paige Bueckers

As the basketball world holds its collective breath, Wings CEO Greg Bibb isn’t waiting for the official selection to express his expectations. Last week, in an interview with “SportsDayDFW,” Bibb stated that Bueckers will make an impact in the WNBA.

“I am confident that if we draft Paige Bueckers, she will move the needle for the Dallas Wings and women’s basketball in North Texas,” said Bibb.

There’s good reason for the high praise. Bueckers has been a phenom since her freshman season at UConn, where she was named the 2021 Naismith Player of the Year and became the first freshman in history to win it. Despite battling injuries, Bueckers came back strong in 2024-25, averaging 19.9 points, 4.6 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game.

But it’s not just the stats. It’s the way she moves, the control she has, and Bueckers’ court vision that separates her.

The Wings, already a team on the rise with athleticism and depth, could use a floor general and a closer, and Bueckers checks both boxes. Moreover, Bibb emphasized that she wouldn’t just be a key basketball addition but a league-wide draw who could elevate WNBA ratings, community engagement, and the Wings’ brand.

“If you look at the ratings, if you look at the merch being sold, if you look at the attendance and venues, there are players that move those needles, and Paige Bueckers is one of them,” added Bibb during the interview.

Beyond X’s and O’s, Bueckers is a proven ratings magnet. Her presence helped push women’s college basketball viewership to historic levels. The championship game between UConn and South Carolina on April 6 drew 8.5 million viewers, the third-most in tournament history.

As draft night approaches, all eyes are on Dallas. The Wings hold the power to shift the balance of the WNBA, and they know it. With Bueckers in the picture, the future isn’t just bright, it’s blazing.

Meanwhile, Bibb has other plans for draft night as well.

Greg Bibb Wants To Celebrate 2025 WNBA Draft Night

This year’s WNBA Draft is set to take place at The Shed at Hudson Yards in New York City, marking a big step forward for the league. With excitement building around rising stars, ticket prices have also jumped — now $99, nearly double last year’s $49.99.

However, most Wings fans won’t be able to make the trip to New York. Knowing that, CEO Bibb is determined to bring the experience to Dallas instead.

“We should have over 3,000 people at College Park Center to basically just watch the draft on the big board. At some point, Curt [Wings GM Curt Miller] will come out and address the fans and say, ‘Hey, we drafted this player.’

“While we will have some players in attendance who will talk to the crowd and some programming for the fans, but really just an opportunity for Wings Nation to get together and celebrate the moment together,” said Bibb during the interview.

Whether in New York or Dallas, the 2025 WNBA Draft promises to be a night to remember. Fans can catch all the action live on Monday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
