When Will Cameron Brink Return? Sparks Superstar Gets Crucial Injury Update

Cameron Brink’s absence has been a big loss for the Los Angeles Sparks this season. Without their two-way standout, the Western Conference squad’s frontcourt has missed some serious punch.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Brink had a promising rookie season cut short by an ACL injury. Although she’s been back at practice, she still hasn’t suited up for the Sparks this season.

As of now, Brink is still limited to non-contact drills. After their Sunday, June 8, practice, Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts said she’s been impressed with the rookie’s effort and progress.

According to ClutchPoints’ David Mendez-Yapkowitz, Roberts said Brink “was getting there” and putting in the work to return.

“She’s getting there. She’s getting there, and she’s working her tail off. It’s at the liberty of her and her physicians,” Roberts said.

Roberts added, “We’re following our performance team, we’re following instructions. There’s testing, there’s all sorts of stuff that goes into it. So I’m just ready and waiting for the day that we get told she can go.”

While there’s no set timeline, the hope is that Brink will return ahead of the WNBA All-Star break.

Before the injury, Brink was making a name for herself as a dominant defender, leading the league in blocks for much of the season. She averaged 2.3 blocks per game, just behind Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson (2.6).

In 15 games, all starts, Brink averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.3 blocks in just over 21 minutes per game. She shot 39.8% from the field, 32.3% from three, and 84% from the free-throw line.

The Sparks’ frontcourt should get a major boost once Brink is back. Dearica Hamby and Azurá Stevens have held things down in the meantime. Hamby is averaging 17.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.4 blocks per game. Stevens is adding 14.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks.

It hasn’t been an ideal start for the Sparks. Despite strong performances — and with Kelsey Plum in top form — they’ve won just three of their first six games. After a 93-79 win over the Dallas Wings, they sit 10th in the league standings.

Next up, the Sparks host the Golden State Valkyries before heading on the road for tough matchups against the Aces and the Minnesota Lynx. All three are Commissioner’s Cup games.
