Caitlin Clark broke multiple records during her rookie WNBA season with the Indiana Fever. The young prodigy’s impact expanded beyond the court as viewership and attendance records were set and broken one week after another.
Now, in just the second game of her sophomore season, Clark recorded her 10th game with at least 20 points and 10 assists — tied for the most in WNBA history. Is Clark already one of the greatest WNBA players of all time? Former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague weighed in.
Jeff Teague Calls Caitlin Clark the WNBA GOAT
Clark led Indiana to a 20-20 record and a playoff appearance in her rookie season. She averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 41.7% from the field and 34.4% from three.
Clark led the league in assists as a rookie, and she won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award and was selected to the WNBA All-Rookie Team, All-WNBA First Team, and WNBA All-Star game.
Now, Clark’s sophomore campaign is off to a strong start. After posting a triple-double in her season opener, she is averaging 23.5 points, 10.5 assists, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 triples, 2.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks, while shooting 45.5% from the field and 47.4% from deep.
On the “Club 520 Podcast,” Teague and his co-hosts discussed Clark’s recent play and the fact that she already tied the record for the most 20-and-10 games in WNBA history. Then, the conversation shifted to whether Clark is the greatest WNBA athlete ever.
“Caitlin Clark is the best player ever to lace up sneakers in the WNBA,” Teague’s co-host, Brandon Hendricks, said. “I don’t care what nobody say. Nobody in the NBA has those type of numbers.”
Teague seemed to agree with this assessment.
“She the best. She gonna be like LeBron with the stats,” Teague said. Then, Hendricks added that Clark will have “unbreakable” WNBA records when all is said and done.
Teague stated that this era is different, so Clark has the ball in her hands much more than past WNBA stars like Diana Taurasi or Cynthia Cooper, which helps explain her numbers.
It’s hard to say if Teague is already crowning Clark the WNBA’s greatest of all-time or if he’s simply arguing that she has a great shot to become the GOAT. Regardless, it certainly seems that the former NBA champion believes Clark is on track to have an unprecedented WNBA career.
Clark has taken the WNBA by storm, posting jaw-dropping numbers and helping the league explode in popularity. She is currently the favorite to win the 2025 WNBA MVP award with +110 odds.
Indiana has surrounded its franchise cornerstone with a great supporting cast that includes Aliyah Boston, DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, and superstar guard Kelsey Mitchell. The Fever have the second-best odds to win this year’s WNBA championship (+300) behind only the defending-champion New York Liberty (+225).
