‘She’s the Greatest WNBA Rebounder of All-Time’ — Ex-NBA All-Star Boldly Compares Angel Reese to Dennis Rodman

Jeff Teague and the rest of the 520 crew recently shared their thoughts on WNBA second-year player Angel Reese. The Chicago Sky suffered a brutal 79–52 home loss to the Indiana Fever on June 7. Reese had a quiet scoring night with just four points, but she did grab 12 rebounds.

This prompted Teague to make a bold comparison to NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman.

Teague: Angel Reese Is the WNBA’s Dennis Rodman

When Reese entered the WNBA, one part of her game that immediately translated was rebounding. During her junior year at Louisiana State University (LSU), she averaged 15.4 rebounds per game and set an SEC record with 555 total boards.

In her rookie season with the Sky, Reese continued her dominance on the glass and posted historic numbers. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 draft broke another record—this time in the WNBA—grabbing 446 rebounds and averaging 13.1 per game, both the highest marks in league history.

Because of this, Teague—the former 12-year NBA veteran—compared her game to that of one of the greatest rebounders in NBA history: Dennis Rodman.

“I’m saying her whole overall game is Dennis Rodman,” Teague said during an episode on the “Club 520” podcast. “Her whole brand—everything. Dennis Rodman was the biggest player off the court. He was a f—ing star, and he was a menace on defense and rebounding. She is the Dennis Rodman of the WNBA.”

The former NBA All-Star continued his praise for Reese, saying, “She’s the greatest WNBA rebounder of all time.”

Initially, though, the Club 520 crew seemed to poke fun at Reese for her missed layups. DJ Wells, one of the podcast’s co-hosts, jokingly said, “Dennis Rodman was getting other people’s missed shots—she’s getting her own.”

While there’s some truth to that quip, Reese is currently shooting a second-worst 30.9% from the field in the league and has attempted only three three-pointers this season.

Still, Teague made it clear that his comparison was genuine despite the jokes. “I’m being serious—she’s the Dennis Rodman of the WNBA,” he stated again. “She’s a superstar off the court, but her game is Dennis Rodman on the court.”

Rodman, a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, led the league in rebounding for seven straight seasons (1991–92 to 1997–98). During that stretch, he averaged a career-best 18.7 rebounds per game in the 1991–92 season.

Does Reese Approve of the Rodman Comparison?

In August 2024, Reese showed up to one of her games rocking some fire gear—a Detroit Pistons jersey paired with jean shorts and boots. The name on the jersey? Rodman. That moment sparked the Reese–Rodman comparisons, and it’s safe to say Reese herself was the initiator, giving her stamp of approval to the narrative.

The second-year Sky star is on pace to lead the league in rebounding once again, currently ranking first with 12.3 rebounds per game.

Returning to the Rodman comparison, it’s worth noting that WNBA games consist of two 20-minute halves. If Reese’s rebounding average were extrapolated to 48 minutes—the length of an NBA game—she would be averaging a staggering 20.5 rebounds per game, surpassing Rodman’s career best and further strengthening the comparison.
