Fever’s Bad Luck Mounts As Veteran Center Joins Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham in Missing Time

The Indiana Fever’s rotation is taking another hit.

Backup center Damiris Dantas will miss several games from late June through early July as she joins the Brazilian national team for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. The tournament runs from June 28 through July 6 in Santiago, Chile. Her absence adds to a growing list of unavailable Fever players, including Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, who are both recovering from injuries.

Dantas was named to Brazil’s 12-player roster along with Chicago Sky rookie Kamilla Cardoso and 19-year-old point guard Manu Alves.

Caitlin Clark Injury Still Shaping WNBA Landscape

Dantas is expected to miss four Fever games: June 26 against the Los Angeles Sparks, June 27 at the Dallas Wings, July 3 against the Las Vegas Aces, and July 5 in a second matchup with the Sparks. While Brazil’s training camp begins June 15 in São Paulo, Dantas will stay with the Fever through their upcoming three-game West Coast road trip before heading directly to Chile.

Meanwhile, Clark remains out with a left quadriceps strain. The team confirmed on May 26 that the rookie guard would be sidelined for at least two weeks. She has continued traveling with the team but has not suited up since suffering the injury.

With Dantas now temporarily out, Indiana’s depth behind starting center Aliyah Boston is even thinner. Brianna Turner and rookie Makayla Timpson are expected to take on more minutes in the rotation.

Ticket Prices Fall, But Fever Buzz Still Driving Big Crowds

Clark’s absence is affecting more than just the Fever’s lineup—it’s also shaking up the WNBA ticket market. Saturday’s game between Indiana and Chicago at the United Center was being hyped as one of the top matchups of the 2025 season. Many believed it could even challenge the league’s single-game attendance record.

According to the Chicago Tribune, fewer than 500 primary tickets remained on Ticketmaster as of Wednesday. However, prices on the secondary market have fallen sharply—dropping nearly 70% since Clark’s injury was announced. Upper-level seats that once went for $125 are now listed for under $20 on SeatGeek.

Even so, the Sky are expected to break a franchise attendance record on Saturday. After hosting Indiana at Wintrust Arena in 2024, the team moved both of its 2025 home games against the Fever to the 20,923-seat United Center. The second meeting will take place on July 27.

Clark’s Presence Continues to Shape the WNBA

Clark helped drive a massive jump in WNBA attendance last year. The Fever set a league record in 2024 by drawing over 643,000 fans across 40 games. Four teams, including the Sky, shifted matchups against Indiana to larger venues to meet the demand sparked by Clark’s arrival in the league.

Fever head coach Stephanie White made it clear that the team won’t speed up Clark’s recovery.

“We’ll be cautious,” White said last week. “The long-term health of our players is the priority.”
