WNBA legend Candace Parker, also a big Chicago Bears fan, is still questioning her team’s decision to pass on Patrick Mahomes during the 2017 NFL Draft. A now three-time Super Bowl champion, the Kansas City Chiefs star is already deemed as one of the best quarterbacks in history.
The Bears, meanwhile, moved up in the draft to select Mitch Trubisky at No. 2 overall, allowing the Chiefs the opportunity to move up later on to No. 10 to snag Mahomes. And while the Chiefs have brought home three titles under Mahomes’ leadership, the Bears continue to struggle to make the playoffs.
Parker, of course, continues to wonder why her team didn’t choose a future star QB.
Candace Parker Questions Chicago Bears’ Decision To Pass on Patrick Mahomes
Unable to decipher the reasoning behind the Bears’ decision, Parker shared a reel featuring Mahomes’ Texas Tech Pro Day to prove her point. The reel showcased young Mahomes at his best, as the quarterback was seen completing an 80-yard throw.

Parker has previously admitted to being a Mahomes fan, and while she might not have an answer, Chicago did try to address quarterback that year.
In 2023, former Bears player personnel director Josh Lucas spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times about the same. He said, “He has a nervous energy, so you kinda question, ‘How composed is this kid? You’re about to hand off a franchise to him in the city of Chicago.’”

Additionally, while Lucas admitted that some of Mahomes’ plays were jaw-dropping, they wondered if his playmaking ability would transfer seamlessly into the NFL.
Of course, Lucas accepted that Mahomes proved him wrong.
Mahomes Is Looking To Bring the WNBA to Kansas City
Now, while Parker might be a Mahomes fan, the latter is just as excited about the WNBA. Often seen supporting the Dallas Mavericks in Texas, Mahomes is now looking to bring a WNBA team to Kansas City.
And if he can, the NFL star could even own one. Mahomes (along with his wife, Brittany) is already a co-owner for the women’s soccer team Kansas City Current.
“We want to get basketball to Kansas City in general and then WNBA. The success that they’ve had this last season and these last few seasons, it’s kind of a no-brainer,” Mahomes said.
“To try to get a WNBA team in Kansas City to this fan base — you see it if you talk about University of Kansas basketball, the Chiefs, or whatever it is — the city of Kansas City is going to come out and they’re going to fill the stadium.”
Though establishing a new team might take some time, Mahomes — who already has some experience — is certainly the man for it.
