Is Caitlin Clark Playing Tonight? Latest Injury Update on Fever Star for Storm Game

Caitlin Clark is expected to miss the Fever's home matchup against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday

The Indiana Fever will most likely be without the services of Caitlin Clark on Tuesday. The second-year superstar guard is expected to be sidelined for the team’s home game against the Seattle Storm.

Clark’s absence puts the Fever’s playoff hopes in danger. Their two consecutive losses saw them slip to the eighth seed with a 19-18 record. A win on Tuesday will see them equal Storm’s 20-18 record.

Caitlin Clark Injury Update: Fever Star Expected to Miss Storm Matchup Despite Recent Positive News

The right groin injury that Caitlin Clark suffered has kept the mercurial playmaker on the injury list since mid-July. As a result, she missed the All-Star action and has been in recovery since. Earlier, Indiana received another jolt when it was reported that Clark had a bone bruise.

Recent reports did see her participate in the team’s shoot around, though the Fever did not announce an official return date. The activity marks the first time practicing with the side since her injury on July 15. Per Rotowire, she is expected to return on September 2 ahead of their matchup against the Phoenix Mercury.

Following the shootaround, head coach Stephanie White’s comments suggested that the Fever weren’t rushing Clark. According to IndyStar’s Chloe Peterson, “It was a good step, because she got out there on the floor with us for the first time, part of the sort of return to activity thing,” White said.

“But it was all very low, low-maintenance, you know, 5-on-0 low intensity stuff. So I think just getting her back out there, getting her comfortable, and seeing where she goes.”

It has been a sinewave-like campaign for the Fever this season. They are below .500 when Clark isn’t in the lineup, and the star has suited up in just 13 of the team’s 37 games so far.

This season is also the first time the former Iowa Hawkeyes guard has missed time on the floor due to a series of injuries. She is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and a career-high 8.8 assists in 13 games this season.

The Fever have been riddled with injury woes. Their guard department, comprising Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham, and Aari McDonald, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. At the time of writing, the playoff hopefuls will look at punching a postseason ticket as their first objective and hope Clark returns to the lineup just before the playoffs.

The Fever vs. Storm clash tips off at 7 p.m. ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The game can be watched live on CBS Sports Network.
