The details of Stewart’s contract extension have yet to be publicly disclosed, but it can be speculated that they will surface soon.
Until then, Liberty fans can continue celebrating the return of their superstar, knowing that the quest for another championship is officially underway. However, did you know that Stewart would sign with the team was already known?
Stewart Was Sure That She Would Stay With Liberty
The WNBA two-time MVP started her professional journey with Seattle Storm in 2016. She joined the New York Liberty under a free agent contract on February 1, 2023, having achieved two championship titles during her successful run at Seattle.
Stewart appeared in an interview during the 2024 season where she announced her plans to return to the Liberty next year yet she remained vague about her future with the team.
“I am under a one-year, and I’m going to sign another one-year. Just so I can continue to have that kind of flexibility going forward. It’s kind of hard to tell, because you don’t know obviously if we opt in or opt out, but with the potential from the new TV deal — how does everything play into effect. How long are things going to be lasting? But I don’t mind the one-years. I’m going to burn my core.” Stewart said during the interview.
In the 2024 season Stewart produced exceptional results with 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. Now the Liberty fans eagerly anticipate Stewart playing for the team again.
