Angel Reese made history Tuesday night, even if the scoreboard didn’t swing her way. On a night the Chicago Sky got steamrolled 85-66 by the still-undefeated New York Liberty, Reese quietly hit a milestone that no one in league history ever reached this fast.
With 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists, the second-year forward notched her 30th career double-double in just 42 games. That breaks the previous record held by Tina Charles, of 47.
The Sky dropped to 2-6 with the loss. It was their sixth defeat of the season and their fifth by double digits. They never led in the game, trailing by as many as 34 points.
Angel Reese Made WNBA History in a Blowout Loss to the Liberty
Reese shot 8-of-13 from the field and made her first three-pointer since the season opener. Her 17 points marked her best scoring performance of the season and came after entering the game with a 30.9% shooting percentage through seven contests.
She became just the second Chicago player to score in double figures Tuesday, joining Ariel Atkins.

Despite the loss, Reese’s stat line stood out. Her 30th career double-double now ties her with Swin Cash for 41st all-time. She’s one shy of tying Maya Moore, who recorded 31 in her WNBA career.
The milestone also drew praise online. In a collaborative post, the WNBA and the Chicago Sky wrote, “More history for the sophomore,” while Reese shared the graphic to her Instagram Story with a praying hands emoji.
New York Dominated From the Start as Chicago’s Offense Faltered Again
The Liberty came out swinging, dropping a ruthless 12-0 run to open the game and never looked back. By the end of the first quarter, they were already up 26-15. That cushion ballooned to 52-32 at halftime, and by the time the fourth rolled around, it was a 70-42 blowout in progress.
Sabrina Ionescu was everywhere, finishing with a game-high 23 points, dishing out seven assists, snagging four steals, and two blocks. Breanna Stewart added 18 points and seven rebounds.
Chicago shot just 42.4% overall and hit only 26.1% from deep. The Sky committed 22 turnovers, 15 in the first half alone.

Hailey Van Lith, still working her way back from that early-season ankle injury, had a quiet night, just 1-for-5 from the floor. But in the closing minutes, she finally got one to fall, nailing the first three-pointer of her WNBA career. A small spark in an otherwise slow game, she wrapped up with five points.
The Sky are also still adjusting without veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear against the Indiana Fever on Saturday.
