Will Brian Thomas Jr. Play in Week 9? Latest on Jaguars WR’s Injury Status

    Brian Thomas Jr. Injury Update

According to the Injury Report released on Thursday, Thomas was a limited participant in practice but is expected to be available to boost the Jaguars’ offense. Thomas practiced all week wearing a harness to protect the right shoulder he injured in Week 7, a sign that he is on track to play.

However, the good news about Thomas was offset by a significant loss. Travis Hunter, who has 28 receptions for 298 yards, 15 tackles, and a touchdown, was officially placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury during Thursday’s practice. Head coach Liam Coen said the team is still assessing the exact severity of the injury, but all signs point to the rookie missing at least four games, keeping him out until Week 12.

With Hunter sidelined, the spotlight now turns directly to Thomas, who must finally live up to the expectations set for him at the start of the season. The wide receiver has accumulated 27 receptions for 365 yards and two touchdowns, numbers that are slightly better than Hunter’s production so far this year.

His best performance of the season came in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks, when he recorded eight receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown. Those numbers would have been even better if a penalty flag hadn’t nullified a 54-yard gain because Hunter was lined up in the neutral zone.

Since that game, however, Thomas has not matched that level of production and has performed mainly below expectations. The absence of Hunter means Thomas should see more targets and have a greater opportunity to make a positive impact. Still, he will need to improve his connection with quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

This weekend presents an excellent opportunity for a breakout performance, as the Jaguars face a vulnerable Raiders defense. Las Vegas currently ranks 27th in the PFSN Defense Impact metric with a score of 67.3, making it one of the teams that gives wide receivers the most opportunities to shine this season.

Following the Raiders game, the upcoming schedule will present another major test for Thomas against the Houston Texans and the Los Angeles Chargers. After that, however, the schedule becomes more favorable again with consecutive matchups against the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, and Indianapolis Colts.

It remains to be seen whether Thomas will finally deliver the consistent, game-changing performances that fans have been waiting for.
