Will Aaron Rodgers play today against the Seahawks?

Is Aaron Rodgers playing in Week 10 after testing positive for COVID last week, and what is the fantasy impact of the return of the 2020 MVP?

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will play Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks after clearing the NFL’s COVID-19 protocol on Saturday. Rodgers was back with the team Saturday, which — since he is unvaccinated — was the first day he was eligible to return after testing positive for the coronavirus. With the Packers having activated Rodgers, is he playing today, and what is the fantasy impact of his return?

Aaron Rodgers activated, will play vs. Seahawks

Rodgers was out of action for just 10 days, the minimum amount of time he could miss. His return indicates he is asymptomatic and no longer considered an infection threat. Rodgers is expected to start Sunday despite missing the last two weeks of practice. He did not play in the Packers’ 13-7 loss to the Chiefs, which was the first game he missed since breaking his clavicle midway through the 2017 season.

Former first-round pick Jordan Love made his first NFL start with Rodgers out, but he struggled. Love completed 19 of 34 passes for 190 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.

Love’s struggles highlight the importance of the Packers’ starting QB

Love’s uninspiring performance showed just how important Rodgers is to Green Bay and should factor into any MVP voter’s thinking. Rodgers hasn’t had the same incredible statistical production that he did when he won the award in 2020, but he’s still completed 67.1% of his passes for 17 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

Rodgers is third in QBR (65.5) and fourth in EPA+CPOE (0.16). The Packers (7-2) had won seven straight games before Rodgers got sick. Even after their Week 9 loss to Kansas City, they are still 3.5 games up on the second-place Vikings in the NFC North and the No. 2 seed in the conference.

Saturday’s health and safety news out of Green Bay ensured we’ll get a dream quarterback matchup of Rodgers vs. Russell Wilson in Week 10. Wilson will play for the first time since injuring a finger in his throwing hand a month ago.

Rodgers has won six of his nine regular-season meetings with Seattle, throwing 12 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions. Wilson is 3-3 all-time against Green Bay, but his passer rating in those games (81.9) is his worst against any team.

Fantasy impact of Rodgers being active

Naturally, Rodgers’ fantasy managers will be delighted to have him back. However, his impact is felt much wider than just his fantasy value. We saw Love and Davante Adams struggle to get on the same page last week. That is not an issue we will see with Rodgers under center. Every pass-catching option sees a boost with Rodgers back in charge of the offense.

Aaron Jones also sees a boost with Rodgers returning. With Rodgers playing, the Seahawks’ defense has to respect the passing game more. That means they cannot simply load the box against Jones in Week 10. AJ Dillon may see a slight decrease in value as the Packers’ offense will likely be more balanced than it has been in either of the past two weeks. If Jones takes the majority of the carries, Dillon’s role may be somewhat limited.
