The 2025 NFL Draft has come and gone, and many teams reloaded with fresh talent. After teams sign their share of undrafted free agents, focus returns to the remaining veterans still on the market.
Kennan Allen is still looking for a new NFL home. Let’s take a look at possible landing spots for the 12-year veteran receiver.
3 Possible Landing Spots for Keenan Allen
Allen was a third-round pick by the San Diego Chargers way back in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played his first 11 years for the Bolts before being traded to the Chicago Bears last offseason.
Allen is one of the most reliable receiving options in the NFL when healthy. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and won Comeback Player of the Year in 2017. After a Week 1 ACL tear the previous year, he posted 102 receptions, 1,393 yards, and six touchdowns. 2017 began a stretch of six Pro Bowl nods in seven years, as well as five seasons eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards.
The Chargers traded Allen to the Bears for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he was expected to be the veteran leader of Chicago’s young receiver room. IN 15 games, Allen totaled 70 receptions, 744 yards, and seven touchdowns.
Last season didn’t go how Allen or the Bears expected, and for the first time in his career, he’s a free agent. Here are three teams that could be interested in the veteran receiver.
Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott’s Week 9 hamstring injury doomed the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 season. The team was already off to a slow start, and the offense lost any potency it had without its starting quarterback. Dallas finished No. 23 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric last season, as backup Cooper Rush couldn’t get things going.
Dallas’ best offensive player is CeeDee Lamb. He led the team in receptions (101) and yards (1,194) last season, and added six touchdowns. Lamb has been aching for a productive running mate and recently named multiple receivers he wanted the Cowboys to draft.
Allen has been a master slot receiver for most of his career and would be a solid second option in Dallas’ offense. The Cowboys did not draft a receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft, but Jerry Jones should keep Allen in mind if he wants to add to the offense.
New York Jets
2024 was another disastrous season for the New York Jets. The team fired its head coach and GM mid-season and limped to a 5-12 record. Aaron Rodgers led a lackluster offense, which finished No. 19 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric, despite acquiring Davante Adams.
In 11 games, Adams ended up second on the team in catches (67) and yards (854). He tied Garrett Wilson with seven touchdowns, but was quickly released once the new regime took charge. Wilson led the team in receptions (101) and yards (1,104) last year, and needs a proven running mate.
The Jets drafted Arian Smith in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but Allen would add proven talent to New York’s offense.
Los Angeles Chargers
Why not, right?
Jim Harbaugh has molded the Los Angeles Chargers to his liking, making them a run-first bully team. However, bringing Allen back could be what gets Los Angeles over the Kansas City Chiefs hump in the AFC West.
Ladd McConkey led the team in targets (112), catches (82), and yards (1,149) as a rookie, and looks to be the number one option again heading into 2025. Allen and McConkey are similar slot players, but the veteran’s familiarity with Justin Herbert makes the move logical.
What could hold up a reunion is that the Chargers drafted two receivers in the 2025 NFL Draft. The team added Tre Harris in the second round and KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the fifth. It would be fun to see Allen wearing the lighting bolt on his helmet again, but the Chargers’ receiver room may be full.
