The end of the 2025 season will also mark the end of Purdy’s rookie contract with the San Francisco 49ers. With the former Mr. Irrelevant likely to acquire a fashionable bag, how long will it be until the deal crosses the line?

49ers and Cinderella Franchise QB Nearing New Deal?

Negotiation rumors between Purdy and the 49ers have seemingly snowballed since the 2024 regular season’s conclusion. As the opening weeks of May roll around, NFL insider Ian Rapoport joined “The Pat McAfee Show,” where he discussed the latest talks between the two parties.

McAfee opens by asking the NFL Network insider whether or not the Purdy deal will get done soon.

“I have not gotten the sense that it will get done soon,” said Rapoport. “It does at least seem like it’s going in the right direction.”

Rapoport goes on to explain other Niner contracts and the lengths of time their negotiations took.

“Kittle’s deal was sort of, a little bit quicker,” said Rapoport. “They got the Fred Warner deal they could do, quarterback deals usually take longer.”

Rapoport continued, “It seems like its positive and headed the right direction. We’ll see if they get that good landing spot, somewhere in the $50’s (million) to get Brock Purdy locked in long term.”

With the deal not quite polished, McAfee questions if it could be done by the beginning of training camp.

“Usually, it’s like is he gonna sign right before training camp and then it’s like if he doesn’t he’ll hold in (a lot of times),” said Rapoport. “Mandatory mini camp deadline, okay sort of, training camp deadline, that’s kind of the next thing. So either mid June or late July.”

Is $50 Million Value Accurate Following 2024 Campaign?

While the 49ers did not make the postseason in 2024, Purdy and the squad fought through a handful of obstacles. The injury bug hit San Francisco bad, leaving key players like Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and Ricky Pearsall missing extended portions of the season.

Regardless, the 6-11 overall finish left general manager John Lynch no choice but to shake up the offensive unit. The biggest move of all came when Lynch decided it was time the club parted ways with six-year 49er Deebo Samuel. The 6-foot wideout joins Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders, leaving Purdy with a new look squad in 2025.

Purdy’s 2024 was serviceable considering the revolving door of injured and healthy players. PFSN slots the QB at seventh overall using the 2024 NFL QB+ metric. Ben Rolfe scores the 6-foot-1 QB at an 87.6 (B+) grade for his resilient campaign.

With question marks across the new 49ers squad, inking the man at the helm to a new deal seems to be priority No. 1. Just as Rapoport said, the deal could be done in days, weeks, or months. While pen has yet to hit paper, one thing seems certain, Purdy will be wearing red and white entering 2025.
