It’s do-or-die time for New York after a disappointing 2023 season. Aaron Rodgers tearing his Achilles three plays into the Jets Week 1 matchup didn’t help, but you can’t change the past.
With the 40-year-old four-time NFL MVP back and ready to go, the Jets used the offseason to continue building around their veteran signal-caller. However, they are taking a lot of risks. Veterans Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses signed in the offseason to bookend the offensive line and improve the protection for Rodgers.
New York also brought in wide receiver Mike Williams from the Chargers, who has also struggled with availability in the past few seasons.
While the talent of the veterans is undeniable, the team is taking a chance on many players who have spent a decent amount of time on the sidelines in recent years. There’s no denying the Jets’ offense has some serious talent. The question is whether or not everyone can stay on the field for the vision to become reality.
The 49ers enter the season coming up short yet again in their quest for a Super Bowl title under head coach Kyle Shanahan. Their biggest offseason obstacle is behind them, as the franchise and WR Brandon Aiyuk agreed to a four-year, $120 million contract extension to end his hold-in.
San Francisco is essentially running it back on offense, rolling with Brock Purdy under center, Christian McCaffery manning the backfield, and the trio of Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle providing the fireworks for the offense. A Shanahan NFC Championship appearance has almost been a guarantee since he took over. Can the 49ers finally get over the hump and hoist the Lombardi?
The team is also breathing a massive sigh of relief after last weekend’s scary incident involving rookie WR Ricky Pearsall. After an autograph signing, Pearsall was targeted for a robbery and shot in the chest.
While serious, he was in stable condition, even walking to the ambulance at the scene, and he was released from the hospital. There’s no timetable for his return, but the early signs promise a swift recovery.
Jets at 49ers Betting Preview
Aaron Rodgers on Monday Night Football in Week 1, what could go wrong?
Ironically, the New York Jets may have breathed a sigh of relief that this game is not on their own turf after Rodgers’ injury to open last season. We have no real idea what the Rodgers-led Jets will look like on the field, but they’ll have their work cut out to cover against the San Francisco 49ers on the road.
