I’m going to be blunt — the Packers are going to win this game, and it isn’t going to be particularly close. Washington has to travel to Green Bay with more baggage than they would like. Head coach Ron Rivera is one of the best motivators in the NFL and will do his best to keep his team in check.

Regardless, their only two wins this season have come against teams with losing records (the 1-5 Giants and 2-4 Falcons). Yes, Ryan Fitzpatrick went down early in the year, but a 38-year-old journeyman was not the answer anyway. Offensive coordinator Scott Turner needs to let Taylor Heinicke off the leash because trying to keep him on script is not working. He is missing routine throws while also making mental mistakes.

Well, missing your big free-agent acquisition in WR Curtis Samuel doesn’t help, nor does having safety-blanket tight end Logan Thomas on injured reserve. Oh, and star RB Antonio Gibson has been dealing with a shin injury — lovely.

The spread isn’t big enough

The Packers are big favorites at home, and there’s little confusion as to why. Aaron Rodgers and the offense are underperforming yet still winning games. They almost seem like they are in cruise control — outside of WR Davante Adams, who is torching every DB across from him. Maybe Rodgers is preoccupied with managing the day-to-day operations of the Chicago Bears. And although I’m not one to tell another man what to do with his money, Rodgers may want to sell his shares the way they are looking.

Tangent aside, Green Bay can throttle a very disappointing Washington defense. Simply looking at their depth chart would lead one to believe they are a top-10 unit. Yet, WFT ranks 32nd in points (31.0), 31st in yards (423.0), and 31st in first downs allowed per game (24.7). Chase Young and Montez Sweat have struggled to generate pressure off the edge, putting more stress on the secondary.

Washington vs. Packers prediction

While Washington is 1-5 against the spread, the Packers are 5-1. The opposites continue when looking at each squads’ over-under record, with WFT at 4-2 and Green Bay at 2-4. Although I think the over should hit, I’m not too confident. Conversely, I’m very confident in Rodgers discount double-checking his way to the Packers’ sixth victory straight up and ATS in 2021.

Prediction: Packers 34, Washington 17
