‘He Was Awful’ – Colin Cowherd Drops Damning Verdict on Patrick Mahomes’ Chasing Tom Brady After Chiefs’ Super Bowl Loss

Patrick Mahomes’ GOAT chase just hit a speed bump, and Colin Cowherd didn’t hold back. After the Kansas City ChiefsSuper Bowl LIX loss, the outspoken analyst delivered a brutal verdict on Mahomes’ quest to catch Tom Brady.

With Brady sitting at seven rings and Mahomes stuck at three, the gap isn’t closing anytime soon. Cowherd made it clear: if Mahomes wants GOAT status, he can’t afford nights like this.

Colin Cowherd Rips Patrick Mahomes’ Super Bowl Showing, Shuts Down GOAT Debate

After the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss, Cowherd tore into Mahomes’ performance, calling it “awful” and a major setback in the quest to dethrone Brady.

On “The Herd,” Cowherd pointed out a pattern: every time Mahomes’ name starts creeping into the GOAT debate, something goes wrong. “Every time somebody gets close to Tom Brady, and you start talking about maybe Tom’s not the goat, bad things happen,” he said, highlighting how early-season hype around Mahomes’ third ring quickly evaporated.

Instead of cementing his legacy, Mahomes posted the 16th-highest passer rating in the regular season and turned in what Cowherd called “the ugliest Super Bowl performance, arguably, of our lives.”

The comparison to Brady wasn’t even close. “Old Brady, by the way, did face Patrick Mahomes, blew him out in a Super Bowl, and beat him in overtime at Arrowhead in the AFC Championship,” Cowherd reminded everyone.

Mahomes might have talent, but when it comes to rings and clutch moments, Brady is still miles ahead. In a game of inches, Brady is several 100 yards from number two, from Joe Montana, from Elway, from Peyton Manning, and from Patrick Mahomes.”

Cowherd didn’t hold back on Mahomes’ Super Bowl performance, either. “It’s just for the second time in the Super Bowl, he was awful,” he said bluntly, pointing out how Mahomes looked overwhelmed, didn’t adjust, and simply shook. And for the second time in a Super Bowl, Mahomes left a mark, but not the kind he (and we) wanted.

The bottom line: Mahomes isn’t catching Brady anytime soon. If anything, this Super Bowl loss just widened the gap.

Patrick Mahomes Takes Responsibility, Vows to Bounce Back

Mahomes didn’t waste time addressing Chiefs Kingdom after the Super Bowl LIX loss. The star QB took to X (formerly Twitter) with a message that was equal parts accountability and determination.

“Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom. I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it. Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me. We will be back.”

Mahomes has built his career on talent, resilience, and leadership. Even in defeat, he took full responsibility. No excuses. No finger-pointing. Just a promise to improve.

This one, though? It hits differently. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that doubting Mahomes usually doesn’t end well. The comeback starts now.
