USFL schedule Week 7: TV channels, odds, picks, and predictions

Week 7 features the final set of interdivisional matchups on the USFL's schedule. Let's take a look at all four games in Week 7.

The USFL wraps up its final week of interdivisional play as the season rumbles into Week 7 of the schedule. The best teams in the league continue to widen the gap between playoff contenders and pretenders. Every favorite won outside of Pittsburgh’s victory over the Bandits, handing three teams a 1-5 record. The Stars’ victory benefitted Philadelphia and helped the Breakers regain sole possession of second place in the South. Let’s see how the Week 7 matchups in the USFL schedule could affect the future playoff matchups.

USFL Week 7 schedule: TV channel, odds, and picks

The Stars’ offense came alive in Week 6, amassing 35 points, five more than their Week 2 victory over the Maulers. While the defense still allowed 28 points, they did force three turnovers and sacked QB Jordan Ta’amu three times. The loss pushed the Bandits to third in the South, and their Week 7 matchup is not too favorable to make up some ground.

The Stallions pushed their undefeated season to six wins without some of their biggest stars. LB Scooby Wright III and RB CJ Marable spent Week 6 on the sideline, and Birmingham had no issues. QB Shea Patterson’s play was not awful, but his overall performance this season pushed Michigan head coach Jeff Fisher to release the first overall pick ahead of Week 7.

Week 7 sees the Bandits in another tough spot compared to the rest of the league. Kicking off the week for the second time in a row, the Bandits face off against a 5-1 New Jersey Generals squad. Meanwhile, the rest of the league’s playoff contenders battle a trio of 1-5 squads. Will the Bandits be able to hand the Generals their first loss since Week 1, or will Tampa fall even further behind the Breakers? Let’s take a deeper dive into the USFL’s Week 7 schedule.

New Jersey Generals (5-1) vs. Tampa Bay Bandits (3-3)

  • Live stream options: fuboTV, Sling, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV
  • USFL Odds: (Odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook)

    • Moneyline: Generals -165, Panthers +145
    • Over/Under: 42.5

Week 7 of the USFL schedule begins like Week 6 with what should be the most exciting game of the weekend. The Generals hope to extend their win streak to six against its final South Division opponent of the season: the Bandits. The only loss the Generals have suffered this season was to the undefeated Stallions in Week 1. Since then, they have been completing their sweep of the rest of the league, and the Bandits are the last on the list.

The Generals won dramatically in Week 6, scoring a touchdown as time expired to take down the Houston Gamblers 26-25. However, a nutty blocked field goal and fumble on the same play helped the Generals create a 23-play, 95-yard touchdown drive. The Generals wasted a few opportunities to put this game away, and they cannot afford to do that against Ta’amu.

Ta’amu gave his best performance, passing for 333 yards and four touchdowns. It wasn’t enough to stop the Stars’ explosion, but it was promising for a team whose offensive performance has varied week to week. This season, the Generals’ defense has done a good job shutting down opposing offenses, keeping their points per game lower apart from Weeks 1 and 6. Ta’amu is finding some consistency, and a win over the North’s best team would go a long way to stay in playoff contention. However, the Generals find a way to win this one.

Prediction: Generals 29, Bandits 27

New Orleans Breakers (4-2) vs. Michigan Panthers (1-5)

  • Start time: 9 p.m. ET, May 28
  • Channel: FS1
  • Live stream options: fuboTV, Sling, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV
  • USFL Odds: (Odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook)
    • Spread: Generals -6
    • Moneyline: Breakers -260, Panthers +210
    • Over/Under: 41.5

This Week 7 USFL game between the New Orleans Breakers and Michigan Panthers kicks off at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday. Six weeks turned out to be the limit for first overall pick Shea Patterson, as Panthers HC Jeff Fisher released the QB following Michigan’s fifth loss of the season. They will now turn to former Pittsburgh Maulers QB Josh Love with Paxton Lynch still sidelined.

Ironically, there’s a chance Fisher may see Patterson on the field anyway in Week 7. New Orleans claimed Patterson off waivers as Kyle Sloter’s backup following his release. While Sloter has done some damage on defenses with his legs, Patterson’s rushing ability is a viable weapon for an offense. It would not be out of the question to see Patterson taking touches against his former team less than a week after his release.

While the Patterson drama is intriguing, this game may be underwhelming. After suffering their second loss of the season in Week 5, the Breakers bounced back with a decisive win over the Maulers. Love’s time with Pittsburgh wasn’t the best, and having your Panthers’ debut against one of the better teams in the league is not a recipe for success. Don’t expect a Patterson revenge game, but the Breakers should take care of business easily.

Prediction: Breakers 28, Panthers 16

Birmingham Stallions (6-0) vs. Pittsburgh Maulers (1-5)

  • Start time: 2 p.m. ET, May 29
  • Channel: FOX
  • Live stream options: fuboTV, Sling, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV
  • USFL Odds: (Odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook)
    • Spread: Stallions -12.5
    • Moneyline: Stallions -760, Maulers +525
    • Over/Under: 42.5

The USFL’s Week 7 Sunday slate features the Birmingham Stallions and Pittsburgh Maulers going head to head at 2 p.m. ET. Can the Stallions do it? Can they complete the sweep of every opponent on their schedule in the USFL’s first season? Only the Pittsburgh Maulers stand in their way. Despite missing key contributors, Birmingham cruised to a double-digit win over the Panthers in Week 6.

Should RB CJ Marable not be able to return, the Stallions found a solid backup plan in former Alabama RB Bo Scarbrough. HC Skip Holtz has also been channeling his inner Mike Riley with his intermittent use of J’mar Smith and Alex McGough. They’ve both sparked comebacks when the other has started flat.

The Stallions took the lead in the second quarter and never looked back. Consistency over 60 minutes has helped the Stallions turn a hot start into an enduring streak. The same cannot be said for their opponent. The Maulers have gotten out to a few hot starts this season, only for them to fizzle out. Pittsburgh doesn’t have enough to take down the USFL’s behemoth, even with QB Vad Lee getting his second start. The Stallions become the first team to sweep the league in the first season.

Prediction: Stallions 35, Maulers 13

Philadelphia Stars (3-3) vs. Houston Gamblers (1-5)

  • Start time: 6 p.m. ET, May 29
  • Live stream options: Peacock
  • USFL Odds: (Odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook)
    • Spread: Stars -3
    • Moneyline: Stars -170, Gamblers +150
    • Over/Under: 44

The final game on the USFL’s Week 7 schedule sees the Stars facing off against the Gamblers. No team has been more disappointing than the Gamblers. Houston has lost half of their games by one point. Every game the Gamblers have played has been decided by one possession. Things could be extremely different right now for Houston if the team knew how to finish strong.

Houston allowed the Generals to score a touchdown with two seconds remaining — just two seconds from beating the best team in the North Division. But after the offense was held scoreless in the fourth quarter, a gassed Houston defense allowed a 15-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. Pittsburgh’s offensive renaissance under Case Cookus has unlocked the rushing attack. RB Matt Colburn turned 18 carries into 140 yards and three touchdowns.

While the Stars anxiously await Bryan Scott’s return, Cookus has given Philadelphia a chance to win in his absence. A win here for Philadelphia could just about wrap up the playoff race in the North Division, depending on the rest of the results from the USFL’s Week 7 schedule.

Prediction: Stars 31, Gamblers 24
