Maycee Barber is hailed by many as one of the most skilled young prospects in MMA. The 27-year-old is known to possess a strong support system, not only courtesy of her coaches and the rest of her team but also in the form of her family.
Barber’s parents are said to be particularly supportive of her. Presently, “The Future” is scheduled to fight Erin Blanchfield in a women’s flyweight match, which will headline UFC Vegas 107 on May 31, 2025.
Where is Maycee Barber From, and Who Are Her Parents?
Maycee Barber (14-2 MMA) is an American by nationality. Born on May 18, 1998, in Greeley, Colorado, U.S.A., she’s known to proudly represent her nation on the global stage by competing in the world’s premier MMA organization.
Maycee’s father, Bucky Barber, and mother, Maryanne Barber, played crucial roles in her introduction to martial arts at a young age. According to a 2019 report by Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole, Bucky and Maryanne encouraged all six of their children to train in martial arts. Maycee notably started learning Karate at the age of three.
She was the second-oldest of them. Her sister Emma was the oldest, and she’s credited for having helped her younger sister hone her BJJ skills by learning and then breaking down its technical aspects. Around the age of 13 or 14, Maycee spoke to her parents about her dream of becoming a professional fighter.
Speaking to Yahoo Sports, Bucky Barber suggested that he and his wife were initially worried and skeptical about Maycee becoming a combat sports athlete. He indicated that though they were happy to see their children acquire martial arts knowledge, competing as a fighter entailed the potential of considerable damage to one’s health.
Bucky and Maryanne run a martial arts academy in Fort Collins, Colorado, U.S.A. However, they eventually moved to different parts of the country to ensure their daughter Maycee gets to train at various elite MMA gyms, including facilities like Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male in California and the Jackson Wink MMA Academy in New Mexico.
Maycee’s father explained that, upon coming to terms with her wanting to be a fighter, they prioritized providing her with the best training to minimize the damage she’d take in her MMA fights. Bucky asserted, “At that point, it was, ‘OK, the better we make her as a fighter, the less damage she’s going to take.’ So we started to travel and we took her literally all over the United States.”
Bucky Barber made waves in the MMA community back in 2020 when Maycee Barber suffered her first professional MMA defeat, losing to Roxanne Modafferi via unanimous decision. Taking to Instagram, Bucky attributed the defeat to an ACL injury Barber suffered early in that fight. He emphasized that his daughter was more skilled than Modafferi.
Some fans criticized him for supposedly downplaying Modafferi’s win. Regardless, in the ensuing years, Barber has continued enjoying the support of her family and has moved forward in her journey to achieve MMA greatness.
