Where is Mateusz Gamrot From? The UFC Star’s Ethnicity, Nationality, and Family Background

After suffering just the third defeat of his MMA career at the hands of Dan Hooker at UFC 305, Mateusz Gamrot looks to avenge that loss on May 31. He’ll be making his 2025 debut, taking on Ludovit Klein in the co-main event. Competing in the UFC Apex is certainly a step down from being on the main card of a PPV, but Gamrot still has his work cut out for him. With a wife and two kids at home, Gamrot would love to bring home a championship one day.

A Look Into the Life of Mateusz Gamrot

Gamrot was born in Bielsko-Biala, Poland. He spent his youth growing up in Kudowa-Zdroj, roughly four hours from his hometown. Once junior high school came around, Milicz was the location of his boarding school. Milicz was another three hours from Kudowa-Zdroj, with it being three hours from Bielsko-Biala as well.

Under the wing of Andrzej Koscielski, Gamrot trained in freestyle wrestling. While Koscielski is a wrestling champion of his own, he was taken into custody in October 2024 for a murder dating back to 2002. Gamrot has been able to keep himself out of trouble, but there’s no doubt he wouldn’t be where he is today without the help of Koscielski.

Married to Agata, they have two children together, born in 2016 and 2020. The father of two made his UFC debut the year his second child was born, 2020. Having entered the Octagon with a perfect record, Gamrot was at the mercy of a split decision loss to Guram Kutateladze.

Oddly enough, two of Gamrot’s three UFC losses have been via split decision. The Dan Hooker loss was from a split decision as well, but his loss to Beneil Dariush in late 2022 was a unanimous decision.

After losing his first UFC fight in 2020, Gamrot won his next four fights, with three of the four wins coming by stoppage. A submission win over Jeremy Stephens in just 65 seconds was incredibly impressive, and he had a pair of knockout wins in the second round. Since then, just one of his four wins has been by stoppage–a KO of Rafael Fiziev in the second round of his second UFC main event.

Even though he just lost to Dan Hooker, Gamrot holds a win over 22-3 Arman Tsarukyan. Gamrot’s 24-3 record looks pretty great next to Tsarukyan, especially knowing that he just defeated the legendary Charles Oliveira. His unanimous decision win over Tsarukyan in June of 2022 could go down as a career-defining win if Tsarukyan is the next man to challenge for the Lightweight Championship.
