    Where is Alexa Grasso From? The UFC Star’s Nationality, Ethnicity, and Family Background

    Where Does Alexa Grasso Come From?

    Alexa Grasso has always proudly represented her country of Mexico. She was born on August 9, 1993, in Guadalajara, in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

    Back in March 2023, Grasso faced Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285. She delivered an outstanding performance, submitting Shevchenko in the fourth round to claim the flyweight title. This historic victory made her the first female Mexican UFC champion, making the entire nation proud.

    Many top athletes who achieve greatness in sports often have family roots in their chosen discipline and that’s exactly the case with Alexa Grasso. Her father, Luis Grasso, and her uncle, Francisco Grasso, were instrumental in sparking her love for MMA.

    In an interview with UFC Español, Grasso revealed that her mother is from Mexico City and her father is from Guadalajara. The former champion also shared that her parents played a significant role in her athletic journey, enrolling her in as many sports as possible during her childhood.

    “Well my parents played a super important role in my life because they are my examples they were my teachers too. Since I was little I really liked sports. My parents always got me into everything they could do after school, I really did all the sports.”

    Alexa revealed how she got into MMA, sharing that it all started when her uncle was submitted by a smaller opponent, which sparked his interest in wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu. As he began learning and teaching martial arts, Alexa joined his classes and the rest is history. Eventually, they opened their own gym.

    “Boxing came to us because of my dad. My uncle’s grandfather was a boxer. When they were little, they liked it they say they used to fight and play among themselves when they were teenagers. My uncle was the one who took it very seriously and made it professional.”

    “He told me once that during a fight, he got submitted, and that really caught his attention. He started wrestling, learned Jiu-Jitsu, and then began teaching classes at a gym. That was where I took my first class. Later, we opened our own gym called Grasso Xtreme Training.”
