UFC 315 Fighter Makes Feelings Known on Having Georges St-Pierre in His Corner – ‘I Got My Own Superstar’

The retired two-division UFC champion Georges St-Pierre will be at UFC 315 in Montreal, but not as a fighter. He will be in the corner of a Bantamweight fighter from the acclaimed Tristar Gym.

The fighter in question is Aimann Zahabi, the younger brother of St-Pierre’s head coach, Firas. The 37-year-old is excited to face a legend at UFC 315, with another one in his corner.

What Did UFC 315 Fighter Say About Having Georges St-Pierre in His Corner?

Zahabi will be looking to break into the top 10 of the Bantamweight rankings with a victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 315. Currently ranked 11th, Aldo is one of the greatest Featherweight fighters in the UFC and is looking to make one last run at the Bantamweight title.

Preluding the anticipated fight, Zahabi shared feelings about having St-Pierre in his corner during his recent interview with Patrick Cote for Sportsnet.

“GSP believes in me, you know. So, I want to feed off that energy, and Georges always tells me that I’m more than enough to make it to become a world champion. So, having him walk out with me and fighting a world champion is gonna give me an extra confidence to know that I have the right support,” Zahabi said.

Some of his close acquaintances feared for him as he was set to take on a legend like Aldo. With St-Pierre in his corner, Zahabi believes that this fear has diminished.

The 37-year-old believes a victory over Aldo will force the UFC to give him a top 10 fighter. With a victory in that fight, Zahabi thinks a Bantamweight title shot might happen, particularly if somebody gets injured and he gets to fill in on short notice.

Zahabi has a five-fight winning streak in the division. After entering the UFC with an undefeated record, the 37-year-old went 2-2 in his first four before his current winning streak.

St-Pierre Gave Important Advice to Zahabi Before His Previous Fight

Zahabi last fought at UFC Edmonton, headlined by Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi, winning a unanimous decision over Pedro Munhoz. Preluding the fight, St-Pierre called his head coach’s brother and gave important advice, which Zahabi shared in the post-fight press conference.

“He’s like, ‘Listen, you’re better than him everywhere.’ He’s like, ‘But you’re going to have to do it for 15 minutes non-stop. You can’t take a break in there. This guy is hard to put away, he’s very experienced, he hits hard. So you’ve got to be on your game for 15 minutes straight. I believe in you. You can do it. You’re in great condition,'” Zahabi said.

After winning the fight, the 37-year-old revealed that St-Pierre called again to congratulate him. The former Welterweight and Middleweight champion particularly applauded Zahabi’s jab, which the 37-year-old attributed to copying from St-Pierre.
