Dustin Poirier recently announced that he will step into the Octagon for the last time at UFC 318 against former rival, Max Holloway. It also means Poirier has a chance to claim a UFC championship, as Holloway’s BMF title will be on the line for the fight.
MMA fans voiced their opinions after learning about the timeline of Poirier’s “Last Dance” inside the octagon. One of them wanted him to seal the encounter with his favorite submission maneuver.
Fans React To Dustin Poirier’s Trilogy Matchup Against Max Holloway
Dustin Poirier is a seasoned UFC lightweight currently in the fifteenth year of his career in the promotion. The Lafayette native has delivered several legendary encounters with some of the most renowned lightweights of the modern era, including Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, and others. Poirier’s final UFC encounter against Holloway will be their trilogy fight, with “The Diamond” claiming victories in both the previous fights.
Despite holding a remarkable 30-9 pro-MMA record, “The Diamond” has never won an undisputed UFC championship. Poirier endured losses in all three of his lightweight title fights to date, with his most recent defeat coming against the reigning champion, Makhachev, at UFC 302.
The 36-year-old also received a shot at the vacant BMF gold at UFC 291 but failed to make the most of the opportunity. Poirier got knocked out by a head kick from his rival, Justin Gaethje, in the second round of the encounter.
It wouldn’t be wrong to expect a slugfest in Poirier’s last fight at UFC 318, since his rival, Holloway, prefers a stand-and-strike style fight. But fans wanted Poirier to seal his final in-Octagon encounter with his favorite submission technique, the Guillotine.
Poirier publicized the timeline of his final UFC encounter with an Instagram post, which received a plethora of reactions from his followers.

Many of them desired a guillotine-submission victory for Poirier in his “Last Dance”. One such comment read, “This Is the One, Jump the Guilly”.
Another one wrote, “Silly Max. Guilly gang coming down da street”.
One more fan expressed similar thoughts, writing, “Last dancing! Respect, my man. Let’s put an end to Max with the guillotine this time.”
A few days back, Poirier mentioned that he would announce his next fight within two weeks. “The Diamond” has already fulfilled his promise. However, it would be interesting to see if he can finish the fight with a guillotine, as the fans want.
