O’Malley is currently scheduled to face off against Merab Dvalishvili for the bantamweight throne at UFC 316. The bout will headline the card which is set to take place on June 7 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Apart from that, several other exciting matchups like Julianna Pena vs. Kayla Harrison, Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland, Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer and Marlon Vera vs. Mario Bautista will also take place on the UFC 316 card.

The bantamweight fight will be a rematch as the two athletes first squared off at UFC 306 in September 2024. The night did not go well for “Suga” as he was outclassed by Dvalishvili for the majority of the fight and ended up losing via unanimous decision. The three judges scored the bout 49-46, 48-47 and 48-47 in favor of “The Machine”.

Dvalishvili recently made an appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show” where he shared that he intended to take a different approach in the rematch against O’Malley. “The Machine” stated that he wanted to showcase more of his striking skills in the second fight and wanted to take more risks.

“Our fans deserve a good fight, some super fight, some risky fights,” said Dvalishvili. “How I’m gonna fight against Sean O’Malley? I’m gonna take some risks and I’m gonna show my striking too. That’s what I’m thinking right now. Let’s see, fight maybe it’s gonna be different but that’s what I’m thinking now. You guys know sometimes I’m a little crazy, so in some fights I’m gonna show my craziness too.”

Dvalishvili is currently on an incredible run in the UFC. “The Machine” has won 12 fights in a row. This winning streak includes victories over highly skilled fighters like Petr Yan, Jose Aldo, Marlon Moraes, Henry Cejudo and Umar Nurmagomedov.
