UFC star Dustin Poirier recently demonstrated just how effective and unforgiving his guillotine choke can be, as popular MMA reporter Mike Bohn found himself on the receiving end of the submission.
Poirier applied the choke on Bohn and put him to sleep. However, despite frequently attempting the guillotine in his UFC career, “The Diamond” has rarely been able to finish his opponents with it inside the Octagon.
Poirier Puts Bohn To Sleep With Guillotine Choke in Intense Demo
Poirier has attempted the guillotine choke on various opponents but has never finished a fight with it. One of the most notable attempts came against former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242, where he came close to submitting Nurmagomedov with the choke.
However, Nurmagomedov managed to escape and went on to submit Poirier via rear-naked choke in the third round to retain the title.
During a recent visit to American Top Team, Bohn had the opportunity to train with Poirier and asked the UFC star to demonstrate his infamous guillotine choke. “The Diamond” put him to sleep with the submission, and it took quite some time for the reporter to regain consciousness. The entire demonstration was caught on video.
MMA Junkie later shared the footage on X, and Bohn reshared the video while expressing his experience. He wrote, “Got put to sleep by Poirier and woke up by Gamrot. Quite the experience.”

Many fans believe Poirier’s guillotine submission was the closest anyone ever came to finishing Nurmagomedov in the Octagon. However, “The Eagle” recently revealed that it was actually part of his strategy to get caught in the guillotine by the American in order to exhaust him.
“I knew he was going to try to choke me with [his] right hand. First time I [gave it to him], he don’t take. The second time when he take this” Nurmagomedov said on the Inspire Me Podcast. “I let him choke me, he goes to maximum, I changed my body. I came back, I [gave it to] him because I tried to make him tired.”

Nurmagomedov expressed that it was a dangerous game plan to execute, highlighting how easily someone can get put to sleep by a choke. He pointed out that it was his strategy to tire Poirier out and submit him later.
“It was my plan, but it was a very dangerous plan,” Nurmagomedov said. “Because you have to be careful. Maybe you think he’s not choking you, and you can go to sleep. After that, when I escaped, I understood he’s finished. I take his back and I choke him out.”
Poirier has been out of action since his submission loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 and has expressed that he will return for one last dance in the Octagon. Several reports are emerging that he is set for his retirement fight against Max Holloway for the BMF belt.
